An assistant coach for the Aurora High School volleyball team died in a car accident Saturday near York.
Lauren Akerson, 31, was a second-grade teacher at Aurora and was one of the assistants on the varsity volleyball team. She was a passenger in one of the cars involved in the two-vehicle crash on Highway 34 just outside of York and was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other individuals were taken to a local hospital for injuries.
Aurora is scheduled to compete in the Class B-6 district tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 5, in Grand Island.
