Arapahoe’s Wentz Named Coach at Lincoln Pius X
LINCOLN – It took a little while, but Lincoln Pius X has itself a new volleyball coach.
Kate Wentz, a Lincoln native who has spent the past four years as the head coach at Arapahoe, has been named the school’s new coach. Wentz replaces Jake Moore, who stepped down from the position this spring but will remain at the school as an administrator and teacher.
Wentz is a graduate of Lincoln East high school and was an assistant coach for the Spartans before taking the position in Arapahoe. In her first season, the team went 4-20, but then posted consecutive 18-10 seasons – the first winning seasons in volleyball at the school. Last year Arapahoe went 11-14.
Wentz is taking over one of the most successful sports programs in the history of Nebraska. The Thunderbolts have reached the state tournament 20 straight seasons – which is tied for the state record – and will be competing in Class A for the upcoming 2015 season.
