Continue ReadingClass C1 might be the hardest of the 6 classes to win a state title in this year. We’ve seen so much talent, as well as an emergence of so many successful teams this season. There are so many records being broken left and right and it’s going to be an epic journey for whoever can win the state title in November. Here’s a predictions of the 8 possible teams who could potentially be battling for a state title in class C1 in November. This is NOT the official list of teams going to state, this is just a prediction of the teams who could potentially make it based on how they’re playing so far this season.
North Bend Central
I don’t think anybody expected North Bend Central to come out of the blue and remain as the only undefeated team left in class C1. They’ve made huge statement wins in September with a sweep of Malcolm and a win against Archbishop Bergan from class C2. If the Tigers can continue their undefeated streak and take it with them into the state tournament, they will have a lot to go up against. They’ll have Wahoo, Lincoln Lutheran, GICC and possibly Omaha Concordia as other title contenders that they could possibly match up with. Regardless of what happens, the Tigers are up for the challenge.
Wahoo
The Wahoo Warriors are on a mission. The Warriors have a 22-1 record so far with their only loss coming from Omaha Duchesne from class B. They were able to sweep Lincoln Lutheran twice and they got 2 sweeps against the defending state champions Omaha Concordia as well. Wahoo has one of the hardest subdistricts in the state, but they have what it takes to make it out of districts and qualify for state. When a team has an amazing setter that is breaking so many records, you have to believe the chances of making it to state are extremely high for the Warriors. They might be the team to beat at state, despite North Bend Central still being undefeated.
Grand Island Central Catholic
GICC not only has one of the best middles in the state, but they’re just solid all the way around. Not only do they have power in the front row, but they have the defense in the back row to back it up. They’ve made huge C1 wins against Lincoln Lutheran and Lincoln Christian, and even beat Grand Island Northwest from class B this season. The Crusaders want to make it back to the top this season, but will have to battle their way through state to do it.
Lincoln Lutheran
With an all-state setter, an all-state libero and one powerful all-state outside hitter, Lincoln Lutheran has what it takes to make it to the state tournament this year. Even though they might have the most dangerous libero-setter-outside hitter trio in the state, everyone else in the starting lineup is stepping up and raising their level of play for the Warriors. Lincoln Lutheran has one loss against GICC, 2 from Wahoo and one from Omaha Concordia after being Concordia twice before that loss. The Warriors are another team that is out for redemption. They are one of only 2 teams to beat Malcolm this season and they are in the same subdistrict as them. This might be one of the hardest districts to get out of, but the Warriors have what it takes to win a district title and earn a berth in the class C1 state volleyball tournament this year.
Ord
After falling to Kearney Catholic in 5 sets in the state championship match 2 years ago, Ord wants to prove they can come out on top this year. Ord looks to be the favorite in their subdistrict this year, but will still need to win their district or get a wild card to get to state. All of the teams ranked in the top 10 have shown that anybody can beat anyone in C1, so this tournament could be the most fun to watch.
Omaha Concordia
Just like Millard North in class A, you can’t count out the defending state champions from making it back to state. Omaha Concordia had a rough start to their season, but have turned it around as of late. They went in as one of the last seeds in their conference, but came out on top after huge upsets of Lincoln Lutheran in the first round, and Grand Island Central Catholic in the Conference title match. Having both Wahoo and Bishop Neumann in the same subdistrict as them is going to be tough, but the Mustangs have proved to us they can beat anyone when they’re playing their best.
Malcolm
North Bend Central and Lincoln Lutheran are the only 2 teams who’ve taken down Malcolm this year. Malcolm has had one of the easier schedules in class C1 this year, so they’re going to have to play their best when district play comes around. They have Lincoln Christian and Lincoln Lutheran in their subdistrict, the same Lutheran team who dominated Malcolm in the first matchup earlier this season. They might have one of the hardest districts, so look for Malcolm to either win the district or get the wild card to get to state.
Bishop Neumann
Bishop Neumann and Wahoo have one of the best rivalries in the state when it comes to high school sports. This rivalry will be fun toward post-season play, because both of them are in the same subdistrict along with Omaha Concordia. This will for sure be the hardest district to get out of considering the winner will go to state and the loser will get a wild card after the district final match. Bishop Neumann will play Concordia tomorrow night and that match will be a great preview of what could potentially happen in sub district play.
Like I said before, this is NOT the official list of teams making it to state in November. This is just a list of teams who could potentially make it based on how they’ve been playing this season. We still have to look out for teams like Mitchell, Syracuse and possibly Lincoln Christian who could all force upsets in district play. The predetermined subdistricts could potentially keep a few of the top ranked teams from making it to state.
