With all the results in, one wild card is still up for grabs in Class D-2. Either Mead or Giltner will get the final wild card and it all depends on the outcome of Saturday’s Class C-2 Sweet 16 match between Archbishop Bergan and Sandy Creek. Huh?
If Archbishop Bergan wins its match against Sandy Creek, it will remain a Tier 1 team when it comes to computing NSAA wild card points. If Bergan loses to Sandy Creek, Bergan drops to a Tier 2 team. Mead played Bergan twice this year, meaning Mead could lose six wild card points if Bergan drops to Tier 2. Currently, Mead has a very slight lead over Giltner for the final wild card spot. But, if Mead loses those six points, it would actually drop below Giltner and Giltner would be headed to state.
Regardless if it’s Mead or Giltner that goes to state, that team will be the #6 seed in the state tournament based on wild card standings of all the other qualified teams. Below is a recap of all the district final action from last night and the projected state tournament pairings.
