Taylor Alden is the number one ranked player out of the Class of 2020 and is still uncommitted for her college volleyball plans. When taking a glance at the rankings there are plenty of middles and pin hitters that are rock solid and pack quite the power with a variance of height and styles as well. Here is a closer look at some of the top players in the Class of 2020.
Outsides
#2 Aubrey Hamilton, Arrowhead High School – Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold
Committed To Notre Dame
Hamilton has been on the radar from the start of her Freshman year. At 6 feet tall Hamilton is extremely physical and dynamic that is able to play all six rotations scoring from anywhere on the court. Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold has big expectations this season with depth and weapons across the board, while always having an eraser in Hamilton. The strength and force that she plays with and her aggressive style is what sets her apart from the rest. Notre Dame is rebuilding a bit and Hamilton will add to the mix along with other highly touted recruits out of the Chicago area. But first, she will looked to lead Sting to a strong finish at Nationals and Arrowhead High School, who is loaded with athletes, to a state tournament appearance.
#7 Emily Banitt, River Falls High School – Kokoro 16-1
Banitt was a key member in the River Falls undefeated regular season and second place finish at the WIAA Division 1 state tournament. Banitt who is just under being a 10 foot attacker, along with club and high school teammate Halle Olson play for the Kokoro 16-1 team out of Minnesota, which as had lots of success over the past couple years. With a solid group of Seniors graduating from River Falls, this upcoming group will be the next to carry River Falls to greatness at the state level.
#9 Milla Malik, Waunakee High School – Capital Adidas 16
Malik is a new addition to Waunakee and Capital Volleyball Academy moving from Galena, IL and playing previously for the Iowa Rockets. This past season, Malik was an All-State outside, while being a key part of Waunakee’s state tournament run. Malik has one of the most violent swings I’ve seen from this class on the outside. She takes an extremely aggressive approach and with a quick whip like swing the ball is down before the block has a chance to set up. Malik will continue to work on her backcourt game which Capital trains defense extremely well. She is a great catch with high energy and ferocious velocity on her swing.
#10 Karlie McNabb, Sun Prairie High School – Capital Adidas 16
The M & M duo of Capital 16 Adidas. McNabb and Malik, Malik and McNabb. Can’t talk about one without the other. One is thunder, the other lightning (however, I’m not sure which is which). McNabb is so fundamentally sound, with a solid all around game. McNabb has the ability to play at an elite level as an outside hitter or I would even put her in the category of being an elite college libero. McNabb flies as she approaches and has a big of shots to go with it being able to cut the angle, rip the line, or use the block. With Claire Chaussee graduating from Sun Prairie and heading to Louisville, McNabb will be looking to have quite the breakout high school season.
#11 Julia Treichel, Wisconsin Lutheran High School – Motion MVP 16 Blu
Treichel and her Motion teammates have made their way up the ranks to one of the top Badger Region teams for 16s, a consistent place at the A Bracket of the Great Lakes Power League. Treichel is a six rotation outside that is exciting to watch because whether its her defense, powerful swing, or her celebrations of a point with her teammates she is constantly making her team better. Great body language, communicating, and lots of intensity Treichel is just one of the many scrappy athletes that play for Motion. Treichel will also be looking to have a breakout high school season at Wisconsin Lutheran with plenty of other players among our top rankings.
Middles
#2 Kiara Reinhardt, Cedarburg High School – Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold
Reinhardt has been on the radar from the beginning as being one of the top middles in the state. At 6’3, long, and incredibly athletic she will be going to a program that is on the rise in Creighton and will also be joining Waunakee/Capital middle Kiana Schmitt as a Jay. Reinhardt is one of the key players in Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold, a team considered to be one of the top ten in the nation with hopes of competing for a national title in June for the AAU National Championships in Orlando.
#4 Karina Leber, Wilmot Union High School – Wisconsin Juniors
Leber has been a huge stock riser since the start of the club season for Wisconsin Juniors 16-1, which has been a solid A-B bracket team at the Great Lakes Power League. Leber is great off the slide and is able to run a variety of tempos in their offense led by setter Karlee Lois. Leber is a force and extremely physical at the net, getting a touch on everything. Her progression through the club season will be fun to watch where she will be by Nationals in June.
#5 Elise Goetzinger, Mount Horeb High School – Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold
Goetzinger has been climbing up the ranks in the Class of 2020, making the High Performance team last summer, earning All State honors at Mount Horeb, and making the Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold team. Goetzinger will be competing with some of the other top middles in the state in practice and competing against some of the best in the nation in tournaments against others who are as tall and athletic as her. This will be a year of lots of growth for Goetzinger competing at an elite level. Plenty of high profile programs will see her on the national stage.
#13 Marissa Kleman, La Crosse Logan High School – V Hawk Xtreme 18 National
Talk about a hidden gem. Kleman is out of La Crosse Logan High School and is competing at the 18s level for V Hawk Xtreme. I saw Kleman play at the Winter Classic this past January when V Hawk won the Silver bracket and had some great battles with WI Juniors and teams out of Illinois. Kleman was very solid playing at the 18s level. I was shocked when I saw she was a 2020 recruit. Physically, she is so strong out of the middle and dynamic as well. I can see her continuing to play middle or even switching to play on either pin. This would be an absolute steal and someone to move in fast. V Hawk Xteme has another middle/pin in Lydia Lange who is another 2020 middle/pin out of Caledonia, Minnesota who will be a solid recruit at the next level.
