This Nebraska ONE Shockerz squad has been a regular at the USA GIrls Junior National Championships the last 4 years. Two summers ago, they earned an Open bid to nationals, so this group is used to playing against the best of the best. Nebraska ONE 15 Shockerz has been one of the top 3 teams in the region the last 4 years as well. It’s no surprise that this team overcame a lot of adversity enroute to winning it all in Denver yesterday afternoon. They went 10-0 on the weekend and only dropped 2 sets out of the 22 they played in.
Coach Christina Boesiger stated that every player “took their game to the next level” during the course of the three-day national qualifier. Boesiger said that their goal going into the tournament was to try to get teams out of system with aggressive serving and with a fast paced offense. Norris freshman libero Molly Ramsey owned the back row and had an exceptional tournament according to her coach. Ramsey’s defense helped her teammate and setter Maisie Boesiger keep the opposing blockers guessing. Boesiger was able to distribute the ball to all offensive options and Coach Boesiger said every hitter on this Shockerz team was a “go to” hitter this weekend.
Nebraska ONE 15 Shockerz beat Northern Lights 172 in the quarterfinal match in a 3 set thriller. After coming from one set down to beat Northern Lights, 15 Shockers beat Club One AZ 15 Platinum in the semifinal in a close 2 set match, then took care of business in the championship match against Rockwood Thunder 15 Navy. This 15 Shockerz squad made history by being only the 2nd team in Nebraska ONE history to ever bring home a Colorado Crossroads title. Nebraska ONE has had other teams win national qualifiers in other states, but this Shockerz squad is only the 2nd team from the Lincoln-based club to ever win a Colorado Crossroads title.
Regardless if this 15 Shockerz squad keeps their USA bid or goes to AAU nationals in Orlando this summer, they’re going to be a threat against any opponent they face. This team full of 8th and 9th graders is relentless and knows what it takes to be successful at the national level. Last year 15 Shockerz finished 5th in the 14 National division at the USA Girls Junior National Championships in Minneapolis. They hope to continue that success this summer.
