Erin O’Leary (Novi/Legacy) set the bar very high for the Class of 2019, but the upcoming seniors still have a lot of potential to reach a new level. Here’s a closer look at the top 5 setters in our Class of 2019 rankings.
- Parker Kwiatkowski, 6-1, Forest Hills Northern/MVA: Ranked fifth overall in the 2019 rankings, Kwiatkowski is a dynamic setter that is more than just a set-up player for her hitters. Already committed to Wake Forest after heavy recruitment, Kwiatkowski is currently competing for the MVA 17 National Black team. Her talents and leadership were recognized early, as she became a captain for Forest Hills Northern as a sophomore.
- Wren McCauley, 5-9, Lake Orion/Michigan Elite: A Second Team Class A All-State selection in 2017, McCauley has developed in her three years with Lake Orion and is also more than just a setter. While racking up over 1,290 assists in the 2017 prep season, she also had over 140 kills and 270 digs for the Dragons. That has carried over to the Michigan Elite 17 Mizuno team this winter. Currently uncommitted, McCauley is primed for a big 2018 fall season with a Division 1 contender in Lake Orion.
- Maddie Dowd, 5-10, Marian/Legacy: Dowd has been the face of the Marian volleyball team for the past three years and got her chance to compete on the big stage of Battle Creek this past fall. Dowd was a First Team All-State pick in Class A after leading the Mustangs to the state runner-up trophy. She tallied over 1,500 assists in the 2017 fall season and also had 350 digs with over 150 kills. A member of the Legacy 17-ELITE team, Dowd is committed to play at Georgetown in 2019.
- Emilee Karelse, 5-9, Rockford/FaR Out: Rockford will be losing a four-year setter in Hailey Delacher (Bradley) for the 2018 fall season, but the Rams don’t have to worry too much as Karelse is set to replace her. Karelse was part of the FaR Out 16 Black team that won the 16 Premier national championship and she has continued to shine in 2018 club play.
- Kelsie Vanitvelt, 5-9, Grand Blanc/Unified: A dynamic athlete, Vanitvelt keeps herself sharp on the court by playing all year. When not competing for Grand Blanc High School of the Unified 17-1 club team, she is competing in beach volleyball. A commitment to Southern Indiana, Vanitvelt is hoping to lead Grand Blanc deeper in the postseason in her senior year after the team exited in the district final.
