Williams was the starting libero at Lincoln North Star her freshman and sophomore seasons, but felt like she needed a change. After falling short in the district championship match in both her freshman and sophomore seasons, she knew that if she was going to follow her dream of making it into the state tournament, she would need to make a change. One of Erin’s earliest memories was watching her sister Erika play in the Class A state volleyball tournament for Lincoln Southwest back in 2006. She knew that if she wanted to follow in her sisters footsteps she would need to find herself a new school to give her that opportunity.
Lincoln Lutheran ended up becoming the perfect fit for Williams. During the 2017 high school season, Williams helped Lincoln Lutheran completely turn their program around. Williams played a pivotal role in Lincoln Lutheran’s return to the state tournament. Williams, as well as her club teammates Hope Leimbach and Marriah Buss helped Lincoln Lutheran raise their level of play and got their team back to the state tournament for the first time in 5 years. Williams led the team in digs with 489, and helped the Warriors finish 3rd at state in class C1. This was a huge accomplishment considering C1 was the strongest class in terms of talent and level of play in the state of Nebraska.
After a breakthrough high school season, Williams began exploring her options for schools to play at for her collegiate career. After making a few college visits, one school in particular caught her interest and attention.
Now a year after making her decision to transfer to Lincoln Lutheran, Williams made another huge decision toward her volleyball career.
This evening, Williams made a call to Coach Rose Shires of UNO letting her know she was ready to become a Maverick. After visiting the University of Nebraska-Omaha back in early March, Williams knew that UNO was the perfect school for her. Williams realized the perfect opportunity presented to her at UNO and committed when she knew she was ready. UNO is still an emerging Division I program, and Williams wants to help the program continue to grow into a regional and national prominent volleyball program. After meeting the coaches, watching practices/practice style, and touring facilities for their Volleyball and Science/Medical programs, Williams felt right at home at UNO.
Williams will officially arrive on UNO’s campus as a student athlete in the fall of 2019. Before then, she still has a couple more goals she would like to accomplish.
This summer she would love to help her Nebraska ONE 17 Titanium club team win a national title. The team finished 3rd in the 16 National division at USA Junior Nationals last summer. This year Titanium opted out of going to USA Junior Nationals and would like to win it all at the AAU National Championships in Orlando instead. They would be the first team from the Lincoln based club to win a national title.
After hopefully helping her club team come out on top this summer, she would love to end her high school career with a state title. Williams is going to go down as the best Libero in Lincoln Lutheran history after the 2018 season. She already holds the school record for career digs, as well as aces in a match. Williams would love for the Warriors to be the last team standing in the state tournament this fall. After her senior high school season ends, Williams will be prepared for her next journey as a UNO Maverick.
