The Badger Region had 35 teams in Orlando from 12’s-15’s age divisions. Here is a recap of how our teams ended up, as well as a special look at Capital 14 Navy with a group of up-and-comers and some All-Americans that took 3rd in Orlando.
Capital 14 Navy – 14 Classic Division – 3rd place out of 166 teams
Capital came in as the top seed in their 1st round of pool play and dominated their pool without losing a set to New WAVE 14 Hurricane (25-14, 25-11) and TOP SELECT 14 TOP (25-15, 25-16). Capital then also won their pool crossover match where they played the first place team from another pool and still refused to lose a set vs BRAVO 14’U (25-17, 25-11). They didn’t miss a step in Round 2 and kept things rolling, beating Altitude 14 Black ROX (25-15, 25-19), Energy 14U – 1 (25-12, 25-10), and WI Juniors 14 National (25-19, 25-10).
Round three didn’t seem to be much different to Capital as the rolled past Sports Performance 14 CTE (25-14, 25-13), WPVC 14 Elite Black (25-15, 25-10), and OT 14 S. Gabriel (25-13, 25-18). After beating Vital 14-1 Gold (25-13, 25-22) in a challenge match, they were off to the Gold bracket! After beating Top Flight 14 Sigma (25-14, 25-23), Capital lost their 1st set of the tournament (still winning the match) in a battle with PBVC National (25-23, 13-25, 15-5).
After a tremendous 12-match win streak, they lost in the semi-final match to SWAT (25-23, 25-27, 10-15). Capital finished with a 12-1 match record and 3rd place but had no idea they had gone on a 21 set win streak because Coach Tyler Katzman and his team were focused on 1 point at a time. Capital had 2 players bring home some extra hardware with Jordan Karlen Jordan Karlen 5'9" | S Milton | 2022 State WI and Lauren Hazelett earning AAU All-American honors. Karlen caught a lot of attention through the club season with her endurance and fighting spirit. Hazelett made her presence known by always finding a way to contribute through serve receive and defense. Great work, Capital!
