We’ve updated the Class of 2018 rankings now that their senior years of high school – and club volleyball – are over. Each day we will release more rankings until we get to the top five.
For now, here are the players that finished ranked #11-15. Congrats to them all and best of luck in the future! Thanks for all you did to make high school volleyball in Nebraska so amazing!
#11 – Alexa Blase, 5’11, OH, Grand Island (Nebraska Gold) – committed to Omaha
If Blasé had played for an Omaha or Lincoln high school, she would be a household name as one of the best athletes – let alone volleyball players – in the state, but playing in Grand Island and not taking part in the major club scene kept her under wraps to a certain extent. She finished her career for the Islanders with 737 kills, including 345 (4.1 per set) as a senior. The explosive leaper had 292 digs and 55 blocks in her career.
#12 – Bailee Sterling, 5’11, OH, Kearney (Nebraska Juniors) – committed to Northern Colorado
Sterling and the aforementioned Blasé are dang near clones of each other. Sterling brings a little more physicality to her game and can be simply dominating at times. In her senior season for the Bearcats she had 316 kills and 320 digs to go with 36 blocks and 31 ace serves. For her career, Sterling finished with 812 kills, 805 digs, 174 total blocks and 78 aces.
#13 – Halle Meister, 6’0, OH/MH, Omaha Roncalli (Nebraska Juniors) – committed to Washburn University
A four-year starter for the Crimson Pride, it will be interesting to see where exactly Meister plays at Washburn University as her athleticism could allow her to hit at either pin or in the middle. Meister, another multi-sport standout, finished her volleyball career at Roncallli with 1,002 kills, 89 solo blocks, 96 aces while serving at over 91 percent and 834 digs.
#14 – Peyton Schendt, 6’0, RS, Papillion-LaVista South (Performance VBC) – committed to Army-West Point
Any time you can register more than 280 kills in three consecutive seasons playing in Class A, that says something about your ability and that’s exactly what Schendt did during her sophomore through seniors years for the Titans. For her career, Schendt finished with 930 kills while hitting .264 and also had 108 blocks, 351 digs and 39 aces while serving at better than 94 percent.
#15 – Maggie Mullen, 5’4, Libero, Omaha Marian (Nebraska Elite) – committed to Louisville
The highest-rated high school libero in the Class of 2018, Mullen sat behind All-American Brittany Witt her first two years at Marian before anchoring the Crusaders’ back row as a junior and a senior. She’s incredibly quick along the baseline and was a catalyst to Marian winning the 2017 state title. She finished her career with 533 digs and 623 serve receptions and also served at over 91 percent with eight aces.
