We’ve updated the Class of 2018 rankings now that their senior years of high school – and club volleyball – are over. Each day we will release more rankings until we get to the top.
For now, here is the player that finished #9. Congrats and best of luck in the future! Thanks for all you did to make high school volleyball in Nebraska so amazing!
Rachel Walker, 5’9, Setter, Lincoln Southwest (VCNebraska) – committed to Wayne State
Wayne State coach Scott Kneifl still recalls the first time he ever saw Walker with great clarity. He was at Lincoln Southwest in the summer of 2015 working a camp at the school when a kid grabbed his attention for her leadership and ability to bark at and motivate her teammates. That kid was Walker, who – at the time – hadn’t even set foot in a Lincoln Southwest classroom after transferring to the school from Auburn.
“And she was just a sophomore,” Kneifl recalls with an astounded look on his face.
Walker had a great season as a freshman at Auburn, finishing with 224 kills, 213 digs and 464 assists. She then switched to Lincoln Southwest without missing a beat, leading the Silverhawks to three straight Class A state tournaments while establishing herself as one of the most well-rounded players in the state and a threat from anywhere on the court. She finished her high school career with 2,415 assists, 234 ace serves, 912 digs and 799 kills.
“Rachel is a proven leader and winner,” Kneifl said. “She is a very knowledgeable player that can train in multiple positions for the Wildcats. Her ability to find ways to win at both the high school and (club) level will be a huge asset to our gym. We are very excited she chose to become a Wildcat.”
