Kira Fallert and Maddy Hornyak of Northern Lights 15-1 earned AAU All American Honors.Northern Lights 15-1 came within points of playing for a national championship, losing in a tight third set 19-17 to Sports Performance 15 Elite (2017 National Champions in 14 Open) in the semifinals of 15 Open. 15-1 went 9-2 overall, losing only to Nebraska Elite 15 Revolution and Sports Performance. Two members of 15-1 were able to earn All American honors in Maddy Hornyak and Kira Fallert. Hornyak is an outside hitter out of top metro power Lakeville North while Fallert is a top player for Concordia Academy who already has state tournament experience.
Northern Lights 17-1 came in highly seeded and finished 13th despite a 10-3 overall record. An upset by MN Select on Day 2 followed by a loss to VC Nebraska in three with the final set going 17-15. All of Lights 17-1 losses came by two points. There is still one huge tournament left for this team with USA Nationals in Detroit where they will start play on June 30 with a top seed in their pool.
Hesse will play for Green Bay in the Horizon League.BrennaHesse earned AAU All American honors in the 17 Premier division where Northern Lights 17-2 went 10-2 overall before losing to Fusion out of the Chicago area in the semifinals. Hesse will be one of the top defenders in the Class of 2019, she has given her verbal commitment to play for Green Bay in the Horizon League where they have been runner-up in the conference two years in a row. Hesse plays her high school volleyball for Farmington High School.
Linnea Larson was named AAU All American in the 17 Aspire division while playing for Northern Lights 17-2. Larson is a 6’3 strong, physical middle blocker, playing her high school volleyball for Northfield High School. With a strong showing at nationals and her physical tools she will definitely be a high riser for recruiting prospects for middle blockers out of the Class of 2019 in Minnesota.
Larson will be a top middle blocker in the state of Minnesota for the Class of 2019.Through one day of competition for the 16s, Northern Lights 16 teams are undefeated with 16-1 in Open, 16-2 in Premier, 16 Red in Aspire, 16 Whitein Classic, and 16 Black in Club.
