To think where the club season started with tryouts in November and now the build up of the national tournament is here.  Most teams blink and ask where did the past six months go? This past weekend was another tournament in the Rosemont and Aurora area with teams from Wisconsin getting one last tune up in before heading to AAU Nationals in Orlando or USA Nationals in Detroit.  Here is a quick recap of the Wisconsin clubs at the GLC National tournament this past weekend.

Two Wisconsin clubs lead the way in the Premier Division finishing first and second with Midwest Penguins taking the championship over Motion 15 Blue.  Many of these players are all too familiar with each other coming from the same area and some playing on the same high school team. The championship was an extremely close battle with MWP winning in two sets 29-27, 25-23.  MWP won the Badger Region Qualifier championship in March and will be competing in the National division of the USA Championships while Motion will be competing in the Premier division at AAU’s.

FC Elite was the only Wisconsin team who competed in the Open division at GLC going 3-2.  After dropping their first two matches to Sports Performance C-Fed and Lions 15 Red. They finished the tournament with three wins against Iowa Rockets, Illini Elite 15 Cardinal, and Uno 15 Elite.  FC Elite will compete at USA Nationals in Detroit.

Royal 16s were one of the big highlights out of the 16s Premier division which featured four teams from the Super Open division of the Great Lakes Power League.  Royal has some huge wins on Sunday with wins over Illini Elite 16 Black, winning 16-14 in the third and then followed up with a win over Sports Performance Red in the semifinals before being downed by Club 1 in the finals.  Sydney Strum and Kaitlyn Flaa led the way and were also on the NJC All Tournament Team. Royal also received strong performances from Katie Pogodzinkski and Breyonna Jackson.

Motion 16 Blue competed in 16 Open and finished with a 4-2 overall record winning the Silver Bracket.  Adversity went 3-1 overall in the 16 Club division with a fifth place finish.

Motion 17 Blue steamrolled their way in the 18 Club division with a 5-1 record taking the pool with wins over APVB, Prime Time, and VC United 18-2 Elite. The championship ended with the victory going to Sports Performance 18 Navy in two sets.

Midwest Penguins 17 Black finished second in the Classic division going 4-1 over the weekend.
