The Prep Dig Summer League at the Milwaukee Sting Center provided some intense matchups, and players stepping up looking to make an impact in their summer league debut.
Storylines To Note:
Waukesha WestWaukesha West looked very strong all around with wins over Franklin and Homestead. West has solid depth at every position and some players who are playing in different positions than they would with their club team. Anna Nerad is a UW-Milwaukee commit that was hitting on the outside while Darragh Dixon who is 2019 setter swung from the right side, showing another side of how dynamic of a player she will be. One effective surprise was Anna Holland, a libero during the club season was playing a little bit of middle. She was scoring points, all 5’6 of her was lethal in the front row!
Kettle Moraine Lutheran is looking to continue a strong season after being one of the top ranked teams in Division 2 in 2017. Ari Miller is going to be a force and balance on the pins will be key for KML who is in a loaded sectional.
One of the most entertaining matches of the night was between Sheboygan North and East Troy, two teams that were some of the top in their division last year and will be again for 2018. Kasey Bell was in full force at the net, being a physical presence for North and Dru Kuck, the future Badger DS/Libero was able to play on the outside. She may not be tall, but that doesn’t keep her from a hard swing down the line. Izzy Martino, a setter for East Troy will play a huge role in the Trojans success. She has great hands and a smooth release on the ball getting her hitters in position, not to mention a little swagger to go with it, a definite gamer.

Waunakee was in full force with a strong core of returners from the state tournament a year ago. Kiana Schmitt was a wall defensively at the net with some big blocks, Milla Malik with her typical aggressive swings, and Sarah Malone who is always solid as a libero out of left back. The balance for Waunakee will be key as they continue to work their way through the summer.
A talented team with a coaching vacancy. Yes, that would be Germantown. Germantown has solid talent at every position. Tori Zagorski can set or hit from the right side, Hannah Brown is a talented middle, and Amber Bischel is one of the top liberos in the Class of 2020. Tatum Catalano is going to be a Sophomore who brings a lot of speed and athleticism and will be a major factor on the pin or in the middle.
Hartford Orioles went 2-0Hartford, who won the league last year went 2-0 with a full team, and a solid bench. Middle blocker, Martina McBrath will be a force to be reckon with in her Sophomore year.
Sussex Hamilton dropped their first match, but came back to beat Waunakee in their second. Sarah Schrader will be a solid six rotation player playing on the outside, with a front line full of height and athleticism.
The team you probably haven’t heard much about is SWCHA Saints, which stands for Southeast Wisconsin Christian Homeschool Athletics. The team is compiled of homeschool students out of the area and they are an extremely talented team defeating Sussex Hamilton in three sets. Multiple athletes play club volleyball and last year took third place overall in the HomeSchool Volleyball National Championships which this year will be played in Wichita, Kansas.
