PDC last won 1 set against Platteville in 2013. Tuesday, September 11th made it the 10th straight match.
Since 2013 Platteville has a 30-1 set record against PDC. Even with all that success, it didn’t make this match any less of a battle. PDC already has more wins than in 2017, and they are heavy with seniors this season. Platteville won 25-19, 25-18, 25-19. Let’s take a look at some of the top available prospects from this match-up.
Izzy Carroll – 2020 – 5’10 – Middle Blocker – Platteville
I cannot say enough good things about Carroll. She does the job of a solid middle by protecting the net, being a strong blocker, and running smart routes. Carroll is also an effective attacker with a fast arm swing and can power through the block, as well as find the corners.
She could be a very effective pin hitter at the college level, as she demonstrated she can hammer from the right side out of serve receive. Even better, Carroll is strong in serve receive with a solid platform and good with her hands. She also plays strong defense out of the middle back, great in block coverage, hustles, and offers a good back row attack option. I hope to see Carroll continue on to play at the next level.
Emily Groom – 2019 – 5’8 – Setter/Middle Blocker – Prairie Du Chien
Groom is kind of raw but definitely shows a lot of potential and could be a nice addition to a division 3 or junior college program. She is smart at the net and a strong blocker. Groom also has good defensive reactions to keep the ball in play.
MJ Stephens – 2020 – 5’7 – Pin Hitter – Platteville
Stephens has a fast arm swing, but more impressive was her defense. She played a lot of right back and defended the line with solid hand digs and played both pins to demonstrate solid off blocker defense. Stephens was also good in serve receive. She would be a good pin or defensive specialist at the next level.
Maddie Cooley – 2021 – 5’8 – Right Side – Platteville
Cooley is fun to watch as a lefty with a great reach. She took swings from both pins and could hit a nice cut from either side. Cooley also made some very smart tips. It should be fun to see who snags this lefty!
Caitlin Pattison – 2019 – 5’9 – Setter/Outside Hitter – Prairie Du Chien
Pattison has really good court awareness, which is so important as a setter. She also has nice hands and makes smart set selections. Pattison plays strong defense, which some setters forget they need to do as well. Pattison would make a nice small program pick-up as well.
