The award is voted on by varsity volleyball coaches that are Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association members as well. The award is based on performance throughout a player’s high school career with emphasis on their senior year and those that represent characteristics of scholarship, sportsmanship and citizenship.
Let’s meet this year’s finalists:
Battle Creek Lakeview OH Sidney Schiller: A four-year player for the Spartans, Schiller has been an All-Region selection in each of her first three years of play. She was second team All-State in both 2016 and 2017. Schiller is approaching 2,000 digs for her career and has over 1,400 kills and 300 blocks for Lakeview over her first three years. She will play her college volleyball at IPFW.
Bronson L Kiera Lasky: A three-time Class C state champion with the Vikings, Lasky was selected as a first team All-State pick in 2016 and 2017. Lasky recorded 21 digs in the 2017 Class C final and 19 in the 2016 championship. For her career, Lasky has over 2,200 digs.
Dewitt MH Desiree Becker: Becker was an All-State selection in 2017 as she led the Panthers to the state semifinals and she has been an All-CAAC and All-Region pick in 2016 and 2017. Committed to Northwestern, Becker posted 403 kills and 140 blocks in the 2017 season.

Lake Orion OH Paige Briggs: An injury in the 2017 season hampered her first year with Lake Orion, but she was still a second team All-State honoree. Briggs attended Oxford as a freshman and sophomore and was an All-Region player in 2016 with 420 kills and 307 digs. As a junior she transferred to Lake Orion and finished with 354 kills and 186 digs for the Dragons. Briggs is committed to Western Kentucky.
Marian S Madison Dowd: A four-year setter for the Mustangs, Dowd helped Marian reach the Class A finals in 2017 while posting 1,531 assists, which ranked ninth in MHSAA history for assists in a season. Dowd was a first team All-State pick last year and has been All-Region the past two seasons. Entering her senior year, Dowd had 3,270 assists, which ranks top 25 all-time in MHSAA history.
North Branch OH Allyson Severance: A four-year player for the Broncos, she was a member of the 2016 Class B state champions and the 2015 Class B runner-up. Severance received first team All-State honors in 2015 and 2017. Last season she posted 726 kills, 338 digs, 110 aces and 55 blocks. As a sophomore in 2016, Severance had 264 kills, 269 digs and 31 blocks. She put up 454 kills, 398 digs and 83 aces as a freshman. Severance will attend Miami (Ohio) next fall.

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep OH Madeline Chinn: A four-year player for the Irish, Chinn was a second team All-State pick as a freshman in 2015 and a first team All-State honoree in 2016 and 2017. Committed to Purdue, Chinn helped lead the Irish to the Class B state championship in 2017. Chinn has had over 500 kills in all three years and is approaching 2,000 for her career. Chinn has over 400 blocks, and 950 digs throughout her career as well.
Pontiac Notre Dame Prep OH Natalie Risi: Another four-year player for the Irish, Risi was a second team All-State selection in 2016 and a first team All-State pick in 2017 as part of the Class B championship team. A Ball State commit, Risi has shown improvement throughout her time at Notre Dame Prep. Last year she produced a career-high 473 kills, 171 aces, 91 blocks and 455 digs. For her career, Risi has just under 1,200 kills with over 350 aces, over 220 blocks and close to 1,300 digs. Risi also contributes with setting and has 660 assists over her career.

Portage Central OH Ryann Jaqua: Jaqua is another four-year player that has earned All-Region honors in her first three years with Mustangs. She also was a first team All-State selection in 2016 and a second team All-State pick in 2017. Jaqua is committed to play her college volleyball at Quinnipiac.
Troy OH Jessica Robinson: Robinson has received All-State honors in 2015, 2016 and 2017. She was third team All-State in 2016 and 2017. The future Michigan Wolverine has amassed over 1,170 kills, 100 blocks, 120 aces and 575 digs in her career with the Colts.
