Here, I am going to breakdown some of the teams and their athletes.
Minnesota Select 15-1 is ranked first in the tournament. They are an extremely talented team who has strong chances at winning it all. There are several teams from outside the Badger Region that will be attending and definitely bring great competition to the table, but this article will mostly focus on the Badger Region teams.
FC Elite 15 Navy
Outside hitters Brianna Cantrall and Bella Van Lannen are already on our Class of 2022 Watch List. They are joined on the list by setter Emma Baierl and middle blocker Berkley Mischler. No doubt, every single one of these athletes will deservingly end up on our list. FC Elite always puts together extremely strong teams and this one is no different. From consistent defense to powerful offense, this team has a great dynamic on the court.
Milwaukee Sting 15 Black
This team is full of dynamic athletes. Both Katie Gund and Taylor Baldwin are setters with quick hands and good decision-making skills. Sahej Grewal and Katie Breier put up strong blocks and a powerful offense in the middle and pin hitters Morgan Klein, Grace Schneider, and Brooke Porter round out this quick offense. Aerene Lim and Sophie Illman are both quick back row players who never let a ball hit the floor without getting a hand on it.
I AM VBC 15 Red
While none of their athletes are currently on our Watch List, I have a feeling by the end of this tournament they will be. They have only dropped one match this season so far. It will be fun to watch them play against tough competition this weekend.
414 15 Elite
This is definitely a strong team with some great athletes. Setter Paige Yelmene has a great knowledge of the game and runs the court well. Mahlia Lowe was a freshman on varsity at Waukesha South this year and has a lot of potential as a pin hitter. Middle blocker Emily Ploszay played varsity at Greendale and had 74 kills and 44 blocks during her freshman season. Defensive specialist Hadley Strohkirch played varsity for Oconomowoc who was runner up to the State Championship this year.
1W 15-1
One Wisconsin’s top teams are definitely worth a shout out. Despite merging several clubs, they have been able to bring in some great teams. Libero Margo Gull was a varsity athlete for Shawano Community High School and had almost 300 service receptions and 143 digs. Grace Holschuh played for Luxemburg Casco and has a lot of potential in the front row. I am excited to see the rest of this team play this weekend.
Other teams that are should have great weekends of high-level competition are Milwaukee Sting 15 White, 15 Royal, and RVA G15 Navy. It should be an amazing weekend that will expand our 2022 Watch List and help develop rankings as well!
