Southern Minnesota Volleyball club showed their dominance throughout the weekend winning all age/divisions:
18’s
SMV 18-1’s took first over a talented OMG Athlete 18’s team (out of St. Cloud area). SMV maintained their perfect record for the weekend with their balanced power at the net, and aggressive serving.
Top performers: Nicole Lund, Bailey Berge, Emilee Terry, Rachel Fink, Caroline Braun, Eden Mueller
The SMV 18-2 Silver also had a strong performance for the weekend finishing in third place. This included beating tough Iowa teams: Cedar Valley Intensity (2 sets), and Johnston 18 Black (3 sets- final set 19-17)
Top performers: Ashlee Kendall (William Penn commit), Madison Cummings, Kianna Kruger
16’s GOLD
The 16’s had two divisions combining for approx. 40 teams. Again SMV proved their strength with the SMV 16-1’s Black team winning the gold! They put on a show with their fast, well-rounded offense and took out other well known teams: Iowa Heart 16U Black and Stewie 16 Blue. The championship match vs. MVA 16 HP was a thrilling 3 set battle. SMV lost the first set 24-26 because of unforced errors and persistence of MVA, but came back to win the next two 25-19 and 15-8.
Top performers: Jolie Stecher, Ella Miller, Hannah LaBonte, Chayse Paulson
The second squad for SMV is equally talented. The SMV 16-2 team finished with a tie for 3rd place. They were overpowered by the same MVA team that put up a fight in the championship. With a little more time, we anticipate an this team to give their top team a run for their money.
Top performers: Kennedy Hady, Ava Brunn, Anna Miller, Elizabeth Theisen,
16’s Silver
This division was made up of many top 15’s teams along with 16 too. The SMV 16-3 team took first again placing higher than MVA 16-2, Hammerhead 16-2, Vital 16-3. This title confirms SMV has found the premiere players in Southeast Minnesota has grown to be top club in this area with four teams in the 16’s age division. Their 16-4 team finished 13th too.
Top performers: Brenna Essig, Ella Johnson, Julia Niles, Erica Matey, Rhiannon Wilson
The rest of their club (14/12) will try to continue the domination on the II part of Frostbite, Feb. 2 and 3rd. Watch for the club’s top (black) teams to their skill to Big City Luau this coming weekend too!
