Future Bulldog Baxter brings an experienced and competitive edge to Drake
A 4-year starter for Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Madison Baxter will take her experienced resume to Drake University this fall. Baxter, a 1st Team All-State setter who had 1012 assists, 270 digs, 73 blocks, 61 kills, and 26 blocks this fall, helped guide the J-Hawks to the State Tournament each of her last two seasons.
This winter, in her 5th season of playing with Adrenaline Volleyball Academy, Baxter hopes to lead her team to another National Tournament appearance. Last season saw the AVA 17s team advance all the way to the National Championship game held in Detroit. Baxter, who has also competed in Beach Volleyball, lists her most memorable experiences in volleyball as competing in the National Tournaments and State Tournaments with her teammates. Competing in these high-pressure tournaments have helped mold Baxter into the competitor she is today.
With presumably multiple offers in front of her, Madison knew as soon as she stepped on campus that Drake University was the place for her, “I chose Drake because it was the best fit for me in several areas. The coaching staff and players made me feel extremely welcome and part of the team as soon as I stepped on campus. The location of Drake is only 2 hours away from home so my family is able to come see me play. Additionally, the size of the school and the quality of the education were also key factors in my decision.”
Drake, who finished this season with their second consecutive 20-win season, as well as a Missouri Valley Conference Tournament semi-final appearance, has been on a consist rise in the Missouri Valley Conference under 6th year Head Coach Darrin McBroom. Baxter is excited to join a Bulldog group that returns all but 2 starters for the 2019 season.
“I am most looking forward to all the new friendships and experiences that playing college volleyball at Drake will provide.”
