As some teams have already made a big splash, others are growing their experience and developing their own momentum. Here are three U18 teams that have already established their presence and competitiveness with some great success in this first month of events.
Kokoro 17-1
Winning the Big City Luau and the Wisconsin Juniors Winter Classic in the same month to start the club season is no small feat. Kokoro swept the Luau with an unblemished 8-0 record to win the 17 Gold division one of the area’s biggest events of the month. Earlier in the month they defeated Kokoro 18-1 to win the Classic 17/18 Open division. With committed junior standouts such as middle Maddie Whittington and outside hitter Cianna Selbitschka, this team has a couple of anchors that can terminate the ball and defend well also. The rest of the roster is a blend of Minnesota and Wisconsin athletes that provide some great all-around depth. Additional Minnesota athletes include:
Jamie Ihfe – 5’10 | Prep Dig #50 2020
Alexandra Lyle – 6’0 | OH | Tartan H.S. | Prep Dig #54 2020
Northern Lights 17-1
With a 2nd place finish in 17/18 Club at the January Thaw in Omaha, NL 17-1 has started out on a positive note as the highest finishing Minnesota team at that particular tournament. They also competed in two weekends of the Molten Series locally where they finished 2nd in Bracket B on the opening weekend only to follow that up with a Bracket A title the second weekend of the series in January. This team is loaded with size, athleticism, and some of the best skilled players in the region. Uncommitted athletes include:
Kathleen Bishop – 6’3 | S/RS | St. Paul Academy | Prep Dig #15
Ellie Dammann – 6’0 | MB/RS | Waconia H.S. | Prep Dig #25
