In the 18/17’s division, there were six pools and five teams managed a 3-0 record. SuperNOVA 18 Red won Pool A, Crank It 17u Shin won Pool B, Michigan Elite 17 Emerald West won Pool C, Unified 17-Blue won Pool D and Passion 17 won Pool F with 3-0 records. In Pool E, both NBVBC 17 and Michigan Elite 17 Alyssa went 4-2, but Michigan Elite dropped one less set to take the pool for the day.
The Lake Erie Power League will continue through March 2.
Standout Players
Pool A: Molly Spencer DS (SuperNOVA 18 Red) – SuperNOVA was solid throughout the day and Spencer was a big reason for that. They dropped just one set on Saturday while holding opponents under 20 points in four of their seven sets. Spencer was consistent in the back row to allow their defense to shine and her steady passing opened the door for the offense to stay in system.
Pool B: Aubrey Shin S (Crank It 17u Shin) – Crank It went a perfect 6-0 in sets on the day and their attack was nearly unstoppable. Much of that was due to the play of Shin, who set up her teammates very well. Shin was very composed throughout the day and kept Crank It from missing a beat.
Pool C: Katie Feeley OH/MH (Michigan Elite 17 Emerald West) – Emerald West established itself as the class of Pool C right away and rolled throughout Saturday’s action. Feeley was the most consistent hitter for the squad on Saturday, as she delivered finishing attacks and showed the ability to change up her speed and locations.
Pool D: Athena Samson MH (Unified 17-Blue) – Unified went 3-0 on Saturday, but really had to grind out some challenging sets. The difference between winning and losing could have been Samson. The long middle was a force at the net for Unified, easily finishing off points when called upon and providing a steady block on defense. Samson showed a lot of promise for the rest of her 2019.
Pool E: Emily Trela S (Michigan Elite 17 Alyssa) – Michigan Elite grinded out the pool win despite a loss to Crank It 17u Marzicola during the day. All of their matches were pretty tight, but Elite managed to win more than it lost thanks to Trela, the setter. Trela showed a lot of all-around skill, contributing in a number of ways for the team. She especially stepped up in the crucial points and showed a lot of leadership.
Pool F: Olivia Alexander OH (Passion 17) – Passion is a solid team with a lot of talent to work with. It wasn’t easy to pick one out of this group, but Alexander certainly catches your eye right away. She moves well, hits aggressively, and can contribute on defense and passing. She looked very comfortable on the court Saturday, as she was able to fill her role perfectly.
