This past weekend, U17/U18 teams across the state of Michigan traveled to Warren to begin the first stop of the Michiana Power League. Fifteen different clubs represent the Michiana Power League. As the weekend finished up, only 3 teams made it through the weekend without a blemish on their record and every team lost at least two sets. Michigan Elite 17 Elite East, Michigan Volleyball Academy 18 National Black, and MVA 17 National Black were the undefeated teams.
Other than the three mentioned above, some other teams who could make a run at the power league championship are Team Detroit 18 Red, Team Detroit 17 Red, MI Elite 18 Elite East, Redline 18 Elite, and Arsenal 18 Jackie. Those 8 teams represent the top division bracket heading into the February 9th & 10th weekend.
Standout Players
Olivia Bergsma OH/OPP (MVA 17 National Black) – According to MVA Club Director, Olivia is “starting to find her groove”. Her block on the rightside and her heavy swings really stood out. Olivia is currently ranked #44 in our 2020 rankings and is currently uncommitted. Another player we need to watch for to move up in the Michigan player rankings.
Olivia Christian Opp/S (Team Detroit 18 Red) – Olivia is a pin hitter for Team D 18 Red. She absolutely lit up the line on a few teams as she helped Team D to a 5-1 record on the weekend. Olivia is currently unranked in our 2019 player rankings but that could change very soon!
Cindy Hogan DS/L (MI Elite 18 Elite East) – Cindy Hogan just can flat out work. Her reading ability and speed to the ball were extremely noticeable over the weekend. She is definitely a player college coaches should take notice if they are in need of a solid ball control player in 2019.
Gabrielle Kellogg OH (MI Elite 17 Elite East) – In what might have been a early season surprise, MI Elite 17 Elite East came out of the weekend undefeated. Coach Ryan Minarek credits Gabriella Kellogg and her dominant attacking on the outside. Gabriella (also known as Goob), is currently #35 on our rankings and is currently uncommitted.
Karlie Kucharczyk OH/MH (Redline 18 Elite) – Karlie stood out both days because of her unselfish play. She dominated on the outside on Saturday. On Sunday, because of a few players leaving because of other sports, she slid right over to the middle position and excelled in the middle. Karlie is committed to Grand Valley as a 2019 recruit.
