Setters Who Impressed at the Winter Classic
It is so fun attending a tournament like the Winter Classic held at the Wisconsin Center last weekend. Seeing a ton of talented athletes all in one spot is extremely fun. When looking at a team, the strength of their setter can be key. These setters truly stood out to me as I watched matches this weekend.
Karlee Lois (Wisconsin Juniors 17-1, Union Grove High School, Prep Dig Rank #18): Karlee is an extremely talented setter who runs a 5-1 for the Juniors and runs it perfectly. She is a nearly unstoppable and unreadable setter with a clear passion for the game.
Kiersten Kraus (FC Elite 16 Navy, Prep Dig Rank #19, Neenah High School): Easily one of the best setters and athletes in the class of 2021. Her speed and sheer athleticism coupled with clean crisp hands and an ability to set from pin to pin from anywhere on the court make her a nearly unstoppable setter.
Rachael Bohlman (FC Elite 17 Navy, Green Bay Southwest High School, Prep Dig Rank #52): Rachael had a great presence on the court. She is confident, athletic, and an exciting player to watch. She is an extremely talented setter who runs plays seamlessly and takes risks while making very few errors.
Keri Walker (Premier 18 Teal, Committed to Northern State, Living Word Lutheran High School, Prep Dig Rank #21): Keri is a 6’0” setter who moves the ball around well. She really impressed me in her teams match against FC Elite 17 Navy. Her grittiness and fierce competitiveness as a player came out and she was fun to watch.
Elizabeth Cobb (16 Royal): I was extremely impressed with Elizabeth’s command of the court. She had strong, fast hands and had great precision with her sets. Elizabeth was a leader on her team and seemed to know her hitters well, calling plays and making connections with each athlete on the court.
Katelyn Lefler (MVP 16 Blue, Prep Dig Rank #53, Sussex Hamilton High School): Katelyn is a great leader on the court. She is a motivator for her teammates and leads by example. Her talk and play calling are productive and decisive. She has good hands and is a strong setter who continually challenges herself to improve.
Molly Spaeth (16 Royal): Molly’s defense is what truly stood out to me. She was a good setter, don’t get me wrong; however, her ability to pick up tips and cover the block was great. Molly would pick up block touches that I thought would for sure hit the ground.
Though it was impossible to see every team play, I was truly impressed by the strength of the setters on the court. Their leadership and athleticism will set them up for success not only in volleyball but in other aspects of their lives as well.
