Before those take shape, I thought I would offer my thoughts on the hitters in the class of 2022 based upon information collected from Maxpreps, coaches, and seeing players in person. These attackers will include middles, outside, and right side hitters. The big question is whether this class will be able to replace some of the incredible 2019 hitters we recently witnessed completing their high school careers. They made a great impact and have so many opportunities to look forward to at the next level.
Here are my top picks for the hitters of the 2022 class.
Mckenna Wucherer– 6’1 – Outside Hitter – Brookfield Central – Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold – Committed to Minnesota
A Minnesota commit and Division 1 1st Team All-State selection, Wucherer led her Central team this season. She is a terminator on offense because she can elevate and has a fast, heavy swing and great range. Wucherer is an all-around player, and it has shown in her stats where she finished with 571 kills, 319 digs, and 91 aces.
Gianna Vollrath– 6’2 – Middle Blocker – Fall Creek – Laser 17s
Vollrath is one of the most naturally athletic middles in the class of 2022. She is versatile at the net and is capable of leading the Crickets. Vollrath helped take her team to the top of the rankings in Division 3, which earned her a Division 3 All-State Honorable Mention. She can do a lot of damage both offensively and defensively at the net. Vollrath is quick laterally and naturally runs smart routes.
Natalie Ring– 6’0 – Outside Hitter – Madison Edgewood – Capital 16 Adidas
Ring has one of the heaviest arms in the class of 2022. Through the fall season, she continued to grow as a dependable option for the Crusaders and was a key contributor. She is a competitor who applies pressure on opponents with a smooth, yet aggressive, approach. Ring can go over the block or she can use the block; either way she gets the kill.
Maleah Howe – 5’9 – Pin Hitter – Oconomowoc – Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold
Howe is a super smooth pin hitter. She has great court awareness, and she can swing for power or adjust to score with finesse, off-speed, or sharp shots when needed. Howe is knowledgable and poised
Karissa Kaminski– 5’8 – Setter/Pin Hitter – Howards Grove – FC Elite 15 Navy
Kaminski was part of a Tigers’ team that featured a solid core of underclassmen this season, helping them complete throughout the year as a Division 3 ranked team. She is athletic and explosive with a fast arm swing. Kaminski is a great 6-rotation player who provides great balance on both sides of the ball. She is aggressive on defense, has great ball control, and has the ability to score points offensively.
Aspen Jankowski –5’9 – Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist – Cedarburg – Milwaukee Sting 16 White
Jankowski helped the Bulldogs to a great regular season campaign going 33-8. She has good arm speed and ball control that make her very effective as a six-rotation player and a future leader for Cedarburg. She can score from multiple attack points behind 2 very solid Bulldog middles.
