The 17s division has a slew of talented teams and athletes both local and from around the midwest. We are now about a month into the club season and competition has been heating up. Check out these teams who are sure to have a great weekend, bring home some wins, and play highly competitive volleyball.
FC Elite 17 Navy
This team is just stacked with amazing athletes. From setter, Rachael Bohlman (Prep Dig Rank #52) to libero Katharine Walch (Prep Dig Rank #24) and everyone in between, this team is sure to place in the top of this tournament. Outside hitters Katie DiRaimondo (Prep Dig Rank #26), Emma Oelhafen (Prep Dig Rank #61), and Emily Bruckshen (Prep Dig Rank #41) are all dynamic athletes who are both smart and powerful. Each and every one of the athletes on this team is an impactful player. Keep an eye out and definitely stop to watch if you see this FC Elite team on the court.
Motion 17 Blue
This team has a lot of firepower with a strong defense to support it. Middle blockers and right side hitters Sydney Burris (Prep Dig Rank #106), Sarah Mattes (Prep Dig Rank #33), Nicole Censky (Prep Dig Rank #54) and Riley Kindt (Prep Dig Rank #47) have an amazing amount of power and are standout blockers as well. This team also thrives on the defensive side with Tahya Pozorski (Prep Dig Rank #17) and Emily Larson (Prep Dig Rank #79) defending the backcourt.
17 Royal
This team is full of gritty players who know how to dig deep and get the job done. Three of the athletes on this team, outside hitter Kaitlyn Flaa (Prep Dig Rank #154), middle blocker Ele Visconti, and setter Alayna Ritter (Prep Dig Rank #49) were key players in Lake Country Lutheran’s second straight State Championship in 2018. Middle blocker Katie Pogodzinski (Prep Dig Rank #98) and outside hitter Isabella Ledezma have power and are quick to the ball. Libero Sydney Strum (Prep Dig Rank #138) fearlessly defends the backcourt and sets up great balls for her teammates to play.
1W 17 National
While I have not seen this team play yet this season, it is definitely on my list to check out on this weekend based on some players I am familiar with. Outside hitter Kealey Bleser (Prep Dig Rank #131) is great at making tough shots and is an overall good player. Setter Rebekah Day (Prep Dig Rank #160) is great at running the court. And libero Hope Sholton (Prep Dig Rank #88) does not let much get past her. She is a leader on the court and excels on both defense and serve receive.
1W 17-1
Another 1W team that should have a great weekend at the Jamboree. Defensive specialist Aubree Bucheger (Prep Dig Rank #115) is not only strong defensively but also has a nice swing. Lauren Richards (Prep Dig Rank #130) is an amazing utility athlete who excels across the net, on both pins, and in the middle. Setter Taylor Birr (Prep Dig Rank #69) is a great leader for this team and runs the court efficiently. Outside hitter and defensive specialist Raechel Russo (Prep Dig Rank #83) is an all-around athlete who benefits 1W in both roles. Megan Piton (Prep Dig Rank #81) also has amazing control in the back row and defends even the toughest balls well.
Adversity WI 17-1
This year’s Adversity 17s team has quite a bit of talent. These athletes come from a range of schools but all are good athletes who love to compete. Leading the back row is Mya Verdillo (Prep Dig Rank #171). Setter and defensive specialist Alli Schwartz (Prep Dig Rank #170) is fast and athletic. The front row for this team is pretty stacked with outside hitters Elsa Copes (Prep Dig Rank #139), Beyonna Jackson (Prep Dig Rank #132) and Mikenna Sterr (Prep Dig Rank #167). Mikenna can also play middle and complements Lexi Cross (Prep Dig #158) in the front row.
Sting 17 White
If I were to describe this team in one word it would be dynamic. Middle blockers Kyah Golding (Prep Dig Rank #87) and Ava Rebarchik (Prep Dig Rank #67) are extremely fast and are both great blockers. Outside hitters Emma Braun (Prep Dig Rank #76), Madelyn Retter (Prep Dig Rank #135) and Josie Salzman (Prep Dig Rank #51) are great all-around athletes with a lot to offer this team. Setters Karli Johnson (Prep Dig Rank #133) and Addison Preston (Prep Dig Rank #153) are fast and each are leaders in their own respect.
The great thing about a tournament like this is there will be no bad volleyball. All of the teams are talented and bring something unique to the court. As we jump deeper into club season, the teams and athletes will develop and the quality of volleyball along with it. If you are watching any of these teams this weekend, be sure to take a moment to appreciate the high level of volleyball and competition being represented from both Wisconsin and all of the other teams traveling in for the tournament.
