Continue ReadingA lot of people get stuck on the idea that if you are going to compete in college, you should either play at the D1 level or not at all. Recently, Gabby Johnson (2019 – SPASH), signed her letter of intent to play volleyball and run track at the University of Minnesota-St. Cloud. Johnson is a dynamic athlete and will be a huge addition for St. Cloud. She has made an incredibly smart choice to compete at the D2 level and dual sport.
There are scholarship opportunities available at other levels, and if you are a multi-sport athlete, you have the opportunity to get 2 partial scholarships at a D2, NAIA, or JUCO in order to have your schooling paid for. There are other options to add on academic scholarships. Here are some top prospects that could be dual sport college athletes.
Ashley East – 2019 – 6’0 – Right Side Hitter – McFarland – Capital 18 Adidas
East led the Spartans with 508 kills to a 29-10 record in 2018. She is also currently helping the basketball team to maintain a lead in the Rock Valley Conference. East will be a big loss to graduation for McFarland in 2019.
Dorci Walker – 2022 – 6’0 – Pin Hitter – Columbus Catholic – Wisconsin Ice 15 Purple
Walker was a fresh face this fall on a seasoned roster for Columbus, helping them to a 27-10 record and Cloverbelt – East Conference Championship. Their basketball team is also having success, and Walker is a big part in that. I’m excited for the spring to see if she participates in a spring sport as well, which is likely when participating at a small school and being as athletic as she is.
Karlee Lois – 2020 – 5’8 – Setter – Union Grove – Wisconsin Juniors 17-1
Lois is a big talent on the court and the field. She was second on her Union Grove team in blocks (28), digs (343), and lead in assists (803) while running a 5-1 in 2018. In March she will take to the softball diamond and help build the Bronco’s softball program while competing for Junior’s highly competitive 17-1s team.
Selena LevendoskiSelena Levendoski – 2019 – 5’9 – Middle Blocker – Clayton – MN Select
Levendoski is your key small town 3-sport athlete. While she helped lead Clayton to yet another state appearance, she is currently helping lead the basketball team in an undefeated 19-0 season so far. They are bound to be the Lakeland Central Conference Champs and have a deep post season run. Then Levendoski takes to the shotput on the Track & Field team. She would be a great pick-up as a dual sport athlete because she can do it all!
