Continue ReadingWisconsin clubs have been supporting the new Badger Region Power League (BRPL) in full force and will be looking to gear up before the big President’s Day weekend. FC Elite 16 Navy, Milwaukee Sting 16 Black, and Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold are the only teams in the 16 Elite Division that are still undefeated. This power league is amply packed with high quality potential college players. There are some big-time players already signed, but a lot available in this highly talented class. Here is a quick look at who will be competing in the BRPL this weekend.
Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold – AES Badger Region Rank #5
Milwaukee Sting is always one of the top programs to come out of Wisconsin (Badger Region). Sting does not participate a lot in the Badger Region but rather competes in more national tournaments. Their limited but undefeated 6-0 record within the region puts them at a #5 on the AES Power Ranking. This year’s 16s team features some of the top prospects in the state, including McKenna Wucherer (2022 – Committed To Minnesota), Anna Holland (2021 – Seton Hall), and Emme Bullis (2021 – Committed To Minnesota).
Katie WinklerWucherer is very fast and athletic at 6’2. She will be a scary force when she continues her career with Coach McCutcheon and the Gophers. Wucherer will work the pins, along with Prep Dig 2021 Rank #2 Lizzie Binder (2021 – 6’3 – Outside Hitter – Sheboygan North and #19 Mariah Grunze (2021 – 6’1 – Outside Hitter – Waterford). All 3 have an incredibly high reach and ability to be outstanding 6- rotation outsides.
Other uncommitted players that should be picked up quickly are Katie Winkler (2021 – 5’11 – Right Side Hitter – East Troy), Alexis Boling (2021 – 6’0 – Middle Blocker – Waukesha West), and Kaitlyn Riley (2021 – 6’1 – Middle Blocker – Catholic Memorial). Winkler is a strong lefty who made a statement at the state tournament in 2018 and got herself a #4 Prep Dig 2021 Ranking. Winkler and Boling are both a bit undersized right now, but major available prospects in Wisconsin. While Boling has earned herself a #6 rank, Riley has risen to #9 in the rankings. All 3 should be on the radar of college coaches.
Saige DamrowFC Elite 16 Navy – AES National Rank #2
FC Elite is truly an exclusive program, being that they only have 1 team at each age level. Elite’s 16s is living up to their name by being ranked #2 in the AES National Ranking. Their 18s team is right up there with a number of committed athletes to Division 1 and Division 2 programs. The 16s’ defense is led by two youth standouts in Saige Damrow (2023 – Libero) and Madisen Miller (2022 – Defensive Specialist – Appleton North).
Miller made her way onto our Prep Dig 2022 Fab 50. Cora Behnke (2021 – 6’0 – Oconto) is an outside hitter that is a big division 1 college prospect, earning herself a #5 Prep Dig Rank, while Hattie Bray (2021 – 6’1 – Middle Blocker – Wautoma) should be another prospect high on college coaches’ lists as she lands at #13 on the Rankings. Other uncommitted players to keep an eye on are Brooke Bolwerk (2021 – 5’6 – Setter – Appleton North), as our #15 with a smooth transition and smart distribution, and Emma Mans (2021 – 6’2 – Middle Blocker – Fort Atkinson), who is strong and athletic with quick lateral movement from pin to pin getting herself ranked at #20. Linnea Willer (2021 – 5’11 – Outside Hitter – Freedom), Natalie Johanknecht (2021 – 6’0 – Outside Hitter – Oshkosh West), and Kiersten Kraus (2021 – 5’10 – Setter/Outside Hitter – Neenah) are all in the Top 30 of our 2021 Rankings.
Capital 16 Adidas – AES Badger Region Rank #13
Payton AddinkCapital is based out of the Madison area, and they always field some solid teams in each age level. Their 16 Adidas is one of the toughest, with Josie Halbeib (2021 – 6’2 – Sun Prairie), an athletic setter/right side hitter, who is a solid 6- rotation player making her way to #11 on our Prep Dog 2021 Rankings. Halbeib’s high school teammate, Payton Addink (2021 – 6’0 – Outside Hitter – Sun Prairie), has worked her way to a #10 ranking. Addink is an athlete who elevates herself to such a high contact point and scores from any zone on the net.
Keep an eye on other uncommitted players from 16 Adidas, including Maggie Allaman (2021 – 5’10 – Middle Blocker), who was a driving force for Sun Prairie this past season helping them make a trip to the Resch and working her way to a #49 Rank. 16 Adidas also has some high-ranking uncommitted youth, including an explosive outside hitter in Natalie Ring (2022 – 6’0 – Edgewood) coming in at #5 in the Prep Dig 2022 Fab 50. Partner Ring with #10 on the Fab 50, Sydney Lewellin (2022 – 5’10 – Setter – Madison Memorial), and you’ve got a pretty deadly combo for years to come.
