This weekend the teams started the bracket play portion of the tournament which means the top teams started playing head to head. There is only one team still undefeated in this division. Here is the breakdown of the top teams in this division after the second weekend!
Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold (Tournament Record 12-0)
This Milwaukee Sting team is the only team undefeated in the entire 16 Elite division, though, honestly with how stacked this team is, it does not come as much of a surprise. Setters Emme Bullis (Prep Dig Rank #26, Committed to Minnesota) and Morgan Yenter (Prep Dig Rank #16, Uncommitted) run a smooth and fast offense. Libero Anna Holland (Prep Dig Rank #18, Committed to Seton Hall) is easily one of the best in her grade. Add in a stellar offense including freshman McKenna Wucherer (Prep Dig Rank #1, Committed to Minnesota), Lizzie Binder (Prep Dig Rank #2, Uncommitted), Katie Winkler (Prep Dig Rank #4, Uncommitted), Alexis Boling (Prep Dig Rank #6, Uncommitted) and several others, you have a nearly unstoppable team.
Milwaukee Sting 16 Black (Tournament Record 11-1)
Their only loss is to the Sting 16 Gold team. So far on their schedule, they have beaten Sting 15 Gold, FC Elite 15 Navy, Wisconsin Premier 16 Teal, and many others. This is an extremely talented team in its own respect. Offensively, they have a lot of power: Kayla Lewinski (Prep Dig Rank #24, Uncommitted) is a pin hitter with a lot of firepower and great leadership skills. Middles Elsa Sheperd (Prep Dig Rank #71, Uncommitted) and Lakyn Graves (Prep Dig Rank #33, Uncommitted) are fast and close the block well. Outside Kaitlyn Bingham (Prep Dig Rank #55, Uncommitted) is a smart player with a wide variety of shots.
FC Elite 16 Navy (Tournament Record 10-2)
I have had the opportunity to watch FC Elite play several times this season and they continue to impress me. Their only losses are to Midwest Penguins 16 Black and Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold, though both were truly great matches. Setter Brooke Bolwerk (Prep Dig Rank #15, Uncommitted) is an efficient setter who makes great decisions and moves the ball around the court well. Outside hitter Cora Behnke (Prep Dig Rank #5, Uncommitted) is truly powerful. She is a great all-around athlete who is very impactful on the court. Middle blockers Hattie Bray (Prep Dig Rank #13, Uncommitted) and Emma Mans (Prep Dig Rank #20, Uncommitted) are dynamic middles who put up a massive block and are great offensively as well.
Midwest Penguins 16 Black (Tournament Record 10-2)
This is a truly awesome team who knows how to dig deep. They are strong defensively but also have a ton of offensive power. Libero Abby Gardner (Prep Dig Rank #28, Uncommitted) is scrappy on defense and controlled on serve receive. She is a great leader in the backcourt. Outside hitters Jordan Berglin (Prep Dig Rank #29, Uncommitted) and Abby Fregien (Prep Dig Rank #44, Uncommitted) are extremely impactful athletes. Jordan has an insane amount of power while Abby has a deep arsenal of shots that she can place nearly anywhere on the court. Abby is also extremely strong in the back row. Right side Rylie Gregg (Prep Dig Rank #68, Uncommitted) is a new addition to this Penguins team and has made her mark. She regularly posts high hitting percentages and is a powerhouse in the front row.
Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold (Tournament Record 10-2)
This is the only 15’s team in the A bracket going into the third weekend of the BRPL. Maleah Howe (Prep Dig Rank #2, Uncommitted) is a dynamic six-rotation outside. Libero Adriana Studer (Prep Dig Rank #7, Uncommitted) is a fun athlete to watch as she reads the court so incredibly well. Riley Hamilton (Prep Dig Rank #13, Uncommitted) is very talented in the back row and is offensively strong as well. Haley Koch (Prep Dig Rank #11, Uncommitted), Morgan Daugherty (Prep Dig Rank #12, Uncommitted) and Riley Dahlquist (Prep Dig Rank #26, Uncommitted) are impactful middles with a lot to offer any team they play on.
As the last weekend of the Badger Region Power League plays out in mid-April, it will be awesome to see how much the teams have grown and watch them go head-to-head. It will be a full out battle to win the BRPL and every match will be highly competitive.
