The focus may be on the Iowa Girls High School State Basketball Tournament this week, but volleyball is never far from our thoughts! It seems that multi-sport athletes are getting harder to find, but these players prove that you can be successful playing more than one sport! Here are the best volleyball players who are taking on the State Basketball Tournament this week:
In 5A action, #1 Johnston opens up with Urbandale on Monday morning. Johnston’s Regan Nesheim will faceoff against Urbandale’s Mylea Cole, with Johnston winning the two previous match-ups. Dowling Catholic, with the help from All-District Middle Jacey Kothe, hopes to upset Waukee while Jessie Stuart and SE Polk look to knock off Mizzou Volleyball Recruit Kenna Sauer and the Ankeny Centennial Jaguars.

The best volleyballers in 4A action square off in the first round, with Grinnell High School and Macy Harris facing off against U of Sioux Falls’ Nicole Jacobson and the Heelan Crusaders. 3A’s Sharon Goodman hopes to help her Crestwood team get past Waukon in the first round, while Valparaiso Recruit MaKayla Geise and Roland Story hope to knock out Des Moines Christian.

With 2A having possibly the most multi-sport athletes, #1 Grundy Center, with Kylie Willis and Hailey Wallis, looks to stay undefeated while opening with Unity Christian, who have Corinna Timmermans and Jori Bronner. The 4/5 match-up has Rachel Trumm and her Cascade teammates facing off with the Dike-New Hartford duo of Morgan Weber/Carlee Dove. #2 Central Decatur and Emma Atwood hope to also keep their undefeated season going, while #3 Treynor and Sydni Huisman look to knock off North Linn.

In 1A action, Undefeated and #1 Newell-Fonda and Olivia Larsen open up with Kali Spicer‘s Springville Orioles. Montezuma’s duo of Riley Gatton and Shateah Wetering have the Wednesday night cap versus Madison Gettler and Shelby Stephenson‘s CAM Cougars.
