Iowa State, nicknamed Libero U, is well known for having outstanding players at the libero position, as a Cyclone has earned the Big 12 Libero of the Year award 9 out of the last 11 seasons. Shannon, who plays for Six Pack 18s this winter, led Columbus Catholic this fall with 356 digs, 177 assists, and 80 aces and was a 1st Team All-State performer. We asked her to talk about her decision to choose Iowa State, and how volleyball has helped shape her into the player she is today.
Q) How did you get started with volleyball?
A) “I used to go to my sisters middle school practices and sometimes I would try to dig a few of their hits and after that I got hooked and I started playing ever since.”
Q) What was one of the most meaningful experiences volleyball has given you?
A) “One of the most meaningful experiences that has happened to me was winning state in 2017 with my high school team!”
Q) What is the best life lesson volleyball has taught you?
A) “Take advantage at each and every opportunity that you are given, hoping that it will help you succeed and excel to the next level.”
Q) Why did you choose Iowa State?
A) “I chose Iowa State because the volleyball atmosphere is amazing and the coaching staff and volleyball girls took me in as family. Iowa State is going to make it much easier being away from home because of all the people and experiences that come with it.”
Q) What are you most excited for next season?
A) “I am excited for the friendships and opportunities I am going to get with this team. Another thing I am looking forward to is the first game at Hilton being able to be on the floor looking up at all the fans.”
