Continue ReadingEarlier today, Papillion-LaVista Athletic Director Jason Ryan announced the hiring of John Svehla as the new head volleyball coach at Papillion-LaVista High School beginning with the 2019-20 school year. Svehla comes to PLHS after earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Peru State College where he was a member of the men’s volleyball team.
Coach Svehla is no stranger to the high school volleyball scene. He started his career as an assistant at Omaha Marian in 2006. John was also the head coach at Omaha Burke for two seasons, leading them to the state tournament in 2009. From 2010-2016, he was the varsity assistant at Papillion-Vista High School while his wife Kristen Lebeda-Svehla served as head coach.
“Coach Svehla’s familiarity with the Monarch Volleyball program and his understanding of the culture here make this a great fit. We are excited about the future of Monarch Volleyball under John’s leadership,” said Ryan.
