For example, Kaley Blake and Kiara Reinhardt or Elise Schneider of Sting 17 Gold might be one of the best setter/middle combos in the country. Bold statement, but I will stand behind it. There are also combos that just are kind of fun with playing style and name with “McMallik” when you have KJ McNabb and Milla Mallik of Capital Volleyball Academy, a 1-2 punch on the outside that is very dangerous in all six rotations and always provides a scoring outlet. Here are a few more combo of players that will be fun to take a look at, especially some from the JVA Jamboree this past weekend.
Aubree Bucheger and Megan Piton – Class of 2020 – One Wisconsin 17-1
One Wisconsin 17-1 made a big statement on Saturday opening their wave with an upset of the number two overall seed Michigan Volleyball Academy. With Bucheger and Piton in the backrow there is always a solid first contact to get 1W in system. Bucheger played libero for Oconto and Piton was a libero for Appleton North. Both can play any position in the backrow and are just solid. This past weekend it was Raechel Russo and Lauren Richards scoring big points, but behind every big kill is usually a solid first contact.
Kaitlyn Coisman and Emma Wollert – Class of 2020 – FC Elite 17 Navy
Nothing came easy for FC Elite 17 Navy this weekend. Enroute to their 17s division title they had four of their seven matches go to three sets. Coisman and Wollert are big time players as middle blockers. Watching them play, you just see the athleticism they both possess, the ceiling is extremely high for these two who will be a great catches at the next level with their versatility and quickness to move laterally. FC Elite 17s is relatively a new group playing together and if this past weekend shows anything about their grit and competitiveness, watch out. They split with MVP 17 Blue and who will they face in the BRPL this upcoming weekend? Yep….MVP 17 Blue.
The Pozorski’s – Tahya Pozorski and Nicole Pozorski – Class of 2020 – MVP 17 Blue
Love watching this team play. Such tempo and execution. Pozorski may not be the most common last name so I figured there was some connection. Turns out they are 3rd cousins. Tahya plays for Oconomowoc while Nicole plays for Mukwonago. With this style of offense, a first contact is essential which Tahya handles with ease while Nicole is a setter who is extremely dynamic and can do a little bit of everything, she can swing too. MVP also has setter, Emily Wendt who most recently won a state title for East Troy this past high school season. Lots of quick tempo sets and when things are clicking this group is extremely tough to stop.
The Twin Towers – check that – Triple Towers – Monica LaFleur, Lindsey Krznarich, and Martina McGrath
Milwaukee Sting 16 White – Class of 2021
I remember watching these three play last year in the 15s and the improvement that all of them have made in only one year is amazing. They are dynamic, they can swing from multiple positions, and they are a matchup nightmare. McGrath was playing a bit on the right side with Krznarich in the middle and there you have a 6’2/6’3 block going up against the opposing outside hitter. LaFleur and Krznarich are both part of Arrowhead High School which will be stacked at the pin and now with these two in the middle will create even more weapons all around for the Warhawks. McGrath will be one of the upperclassmen at Hartford next year with a young roster, and added experience will be a team to lookout for in 2019.
Brianna Geurts and Linnea Willer – FC Elite 16 Navy – Class of 2021
Last year Geurts played a lot in the middle while Willer played on the left side pin. With their block and ability to rip, they are always an outlet which is not always the case with most club teams to have when running a 6-2. Geurts has come on extremely strong in the past year while Willer, who is also on Freedom’s top ten basketball team, has just a really diverse athletic skill set. FC Elite has a ton of depth and competes against a lot of really talented players in their own gym which will continue to push them to play in big matches in bracket play. The club finished first in 15s, 16s, 17s, and 18s this past weekend at the JVA Jam.
