Continue ReadingWe hear a lot about how we cover the metro Milwaukee areas more than everyone else. To be honest, we do write a lot about that area, BUT there are A LOT of players there and their programs and clubs have done a pretty darn good job of making their players’ information available. I love to find the hidden gems, so I wanted to do a few pieces specifically looking at some other areas. I thought I’d start with players out of northeastern Wisconsin. I have no hard lines or use of specific highways. I’m actually looking more at club affiliations and in what area the Badger Region lists them. So with that out of the way, let’s take a look at some northeastern players that have been under the radar.
Allison Berg Allison Berg 5'10" | MB Sheboygan Falls | 2021 State WI – 2021 – 5’10 – Middle Blocker – Sheboygan Falls – Lakeshore Storm 18 Blue
Berg is playing up 2 age levels this club season. In her sophomore year at Sheboygan Falls High School, she tallied 155 kills, 60 digs, and 43 aces. Berg is also a key part of Lakeshore Storm 18 Blue. Look for her to continue making her way up the ranks on the prep and club volleyball scene over the next couple years.
Annika Jeanquart – 2020 – 5’6 – Setter – Green Bay Preble – Green Bay Select 18s
Green Bay Preble was competitive this past fall. Jeanquart runs the offense with Maddy Neumann (2020 – 5’6 – Setter – Green Bay Preble). Preble should only improve with a little more experience and working to develop a strong team chemistry. I hope to see Jeanquart and her GBS squad at the President’s Day Tournament in the Dells.
Brittany Kapla – 2021 – Outside Hitter – Denmark – De Pere Diggers 17s
Kapla is from the Class of 2021 and is a solid athlete from Denmark, which is a program on the rise. In 2018, she tallied 263 kills, 322 digs, and 34 aces and led her team to land in the middle of the North Eastern Conference. Kapla recorded a .244 hitting efficiency, landing in the ranks among conference competitors Cassie Schlitz Cassie Schlitz 5'11" | OH Luxemburg-Casco | 2019 State WI (2019 Committed To UW-Green Bay for Basketball) and Jenna Charron Jenna Charron 6'0" | OH Fox Valley Lutheran | 2019 State WI (2019 – 6’0 – Outside Hitter – Fox Valley Lutheran).
Emma Jaje – 2020 – Libero – Antigo – One Wisconsin Antigo 17-1
Antigo is located northeast of Wausau, which is what many in southern Wisconsin would consider the Northwoods. Jaje was a 1st team All-Conference Selection, which is no surprise, considering how tenacious she is on defense. She is rock solid on serve-receive and, with more exposure, she could be a great catch for any college program.
Lili Dejong – 2020 – 5’8 – Middle Blocker – Winneconne – Impact 17 Blue
Dejong has been a force for both Winneconne and Impact. She led Winneconne to a solid 3rd place finish in the East Central Conference. Dejong held her own with hitting a .310 hitting efficiency, landing her among the ranks of Cecelia Hunn (2019 – Committed To Northern Colorado) and Ari Miller (2019 – Committed To UW-Milwaukee).
Maria Scherer – 2019 – 5’10 – Setter/Right Side – Ashwaubenon – One Wisconsin Bay 18 National
Scherer and 1W 18 National have found themselves having a solid season so far. They have had great finishes in a couple big tournaments. This past high school season, Scherer had 850 assists and 170 digs. Scherer is a HUGE pick-up for UW-Stevens Point in the fall.
Rachael Bohlman Rachael Bohlman 5'8" | S Green Bay Southwest | 2020 State WI – 2020 – 5’10 – Setter/Outside Hitter – Green Bay Southwest – FC Elite 17 Navy
Bohlman is one of those “do it all” players for Green Bay Southwest. This past season she led the Trojans with 303 assists, 254 kills, 53 aces, and 47 blocks. Bohlman is a solid all-around player and one of the best volleyball players to come out of Green Bay Southwest.
Reagan Brown – 2019 – 5’2 – Libero – Chilton – Fond Du Lac Fusion 18 Purple
Brown is from Chilton. which is between Sheboygan and Green Bay. Chilton is a D2 livewire in the Eastern Conference, but Brown is the foundation as libero, recording 390 digs in 2018. She plays her club volleyball for Fond Du Lac Fusion, who has other Chilton stars like Jenna Chaussee (2019 – Committed To Concordia-Wisconsin).
