For some teams it may be the end of their club season, and for others, it is just the halfway point. Badger Region is always a special tournament being right in the heart of downtown Milwaukee at the awesome Wisconsin District Center. The 16 Open this year will consist of 15 teams and a lot up for grabs.
Pool A
Milwaukee Sting 16 Black
16 ROYAL
RVA G16 Navy
One Wisconsin 16 National
Next Level VBC G16G
Sting is the big favorite to win this pool and possibly the entire Open Division. They have had impressive finishes, including a 5th place finish in the Open Division at the Nike President’s Day Classic and winning the Premier Division at the Central Zone Invitational. This group is no joke, but that also means they are a target that everyone wants to beat. ROYAL will be looking to redeem an earlier loss to Sting.
RVA will be looking to redeem their earlier season loss to One Wisconsin. One Wisconsin had a solid finish last month when the took 5th place in the Club Division at the JVA MKE Jamboree. Next Level will also be looking to get a piece of One Wisconsin and RVA after a loss to both teams in Power League. Next Level landed a solid 5th place finish in the Premier Division of the WI Juniors Winter Classic. There should be several good match-ups in this pool.
Pool B
FC Elite 16 Navy
Capital 16 Adidas
Milwaukee Sting 16-1 Madison
Epic 16-Black
SWVBC G16 BLUE
FC Elite is a heavy favorite to win the Open Division after winning the Badger Region Qualifier, Open Division at the JVA MKE Jamboree, and the Open Division at the WI Juniors Winter Classic. Capital recently had an impressive 5th place finish at the Mizuno Showcase. Sting will be looking to take another crack at FC Elite after losing a match to them earlier in the season. Sting turned some heads while placing 3rd in the Adidas Girls CrazyFlight Classic and 5th in the 16/15 Premier Division at the Adidas President’s Day Spectacular.
Epic could be a dark horse in this tournament, not having played any of the teams in their pool before but making solid finishes with placing 13th in the Club Division at the Nike President’s Day Classic and placing 3rd in the Club Division at the JVA MKE Jamboree. SWVBC will be looking to redeem their earlier losses to Capital and FC Elite. SWVBC did have an impressive finish taking 3rd place at the Badger Region Qualifier.
Pool C
Milwaukee Sting 16 White
Wisconsin Premier 16 Teal
One Wisconsin 16-1
Wisconsin Ice 16 Purple
FDL Fusion 16 Purple
Sting can certainly hold their own. Originally I would have guessed they would be the challenger to Premier as the favorites, but with a tight seeding process, it’s flip flopped. Sting did have an impressive finish, winning the Premier Division at the Nike President’s Day Classic. Premier has a couple solid finishes, taking 2nd at the Badger Region Qualifier and 5th at the Adidas President’s Day Spectacular in the 16/15 Premier Division.
One Wisconsin will be looking to redeem an earlier loss to Sting after they recently had a solid showing, placing 18th at the Mizuno Showcase. Ice has been able to take 1st place in both the Cadott 18’s Tournament and the Medford Storm 17’s Tournament but haven’t matched up against any of the teams in this pool yet. Fusion will be looking to take another crack at Premier. This will be their 3rd meeting this season.
