Six Pack has multiple weapons, but plenty of other athletes had a standout tournament that put them at the top and are prospects to watch mostly from the Class of 2021. Most of these athletes are from the Gold Bracket where there were multiple tight matches that really counted come Sunday.
Eve Magill – Six Pack – Xavier – Outside Hitter
Committed To Creighton
Magill definitely looks the part being 6’4/6’5, long arms, high reach, and checks all the boxes for a top tier recruit. She definitely showed why she is one of the top players in her class, but watching her play she is incredibly skilled. When she heads to the back row, she is able to sprawl to play a ball low, she can serve receive incredibly well, and has great range. From the pin, yes, she can hit over the block, but in the championship against CIS she really was able to mix in a variety of shots. When someone of her caliber can blast away on one shot and then roll it over the block the next, how do you defend that?
Layanna Green – CIS – Waukee – Middle Blocker
So dynamic. Green, who stands at six feet tall can move from pin to pin and is so athletic. She can terminate on a variety of tempos and can run great routes to get open. Her best volleyball is ahead of her and will be a great pick up at the next level. With her athleticism she can be used in a variety of ways and can score points at the net in a variety of ways.
Ashlynn Kuhn – Six Pack – Hudson – Middle Blocker
Kuhn is much like Green, but she might stand at 5’9 or 5’10. Kuhn has a rocket for an arm with really solid hand contact. For anyone familiar with baseball and softball, there are hitters who just always get the barrel of the bat to the ball, hitting it square and everything seems to be hard hit – that’s Kuhn. The 2021 middle from Hudson hits the ball square and has such a quick snap where she can hit multiple angles and shots. She is so dangerous on the slide, the zone five defender better get her hands up to defend if Kuhn rips down the line.
Emma Schubert – Iowa Select 16 Mizuno – Davenport Assumption – Outside Hitter
Schubert has such an aggressive approach and really goes for the big swing. A six rotation outside who is a solid all around player was a major part behind the success of Select finishing third overall. Another Schubert, Ava on the right side is a great complement to Emma. Ava is a Class of 2023 right side with a big left handed swing. With the two spreading the defenders out, it makes it really tough to contain the offense of Select.
Pace for Iowa RocketsMartha Pace – Iowa Rockets 16R – West Liberty – Outside Hitter
Pace is quite an athlete, seeing how she can terminate and adjust to what the defense is giving her as well as being a threat in the backrow. The combo of Pace and Elyse Winter are going to be tough to stop for Rockets as they continue their season. Winter is a long outside hitter who is relatively new to the position and once she develops her all around game she is going to be a tough player to counter with her high reach ability to adjust mid-air.
Jasmine Yamilkoski – Six Pack – Xavier – Setter
What a dynamic player, Yamilkoski is so fun to watch. She can play defense, attack when its open, but she runs a great offense with a lot of great hitters. Magill is definitely a go to on the outside, but she also has Kuhn, Danielle Johnson, and Morgan Middleton who can terminate as well. She can take what the defense gives her and really create some great matchups for her hitters to terminate.
Sophia Painovich – CIS – Dowling – Setter
Painovich just make the machine run smoothly, just gets the job done plain and simple. Another baseball/softball analogy would be you want a shortstop to make all the routine plays, which Painovich can do. She has a variety of hitters to go to, including Faith DeRonde, a Class of 2022 prospect as well as right side Anna Gipple who was big time in moments throughout the weekend scoring points in big moments.
Caidince Cleveland – Iowa Select 16 Mizuno – Bettendorf – Libero
Cleveland is scrappy and has a really solid platform, finishing her contact to target. With experience with Iowa High Performance, Cleveland is one to keep tabs on as a libero with her overall athleticism and ability to serve receive and make a play.
Anna Flynn – CIS – Dowling – Libero
Flynn is so poised, reads extremely well, and is just one of those players you can depend on from her ability to get the pass to the setter and her communication. Dowling is starting to build quite the crew of athletes that will be returning from their state tournament appearance last year with many players competing this past weekend in all age groups. Flynn is fun to watch with her teammates as CIS 16M has a really solid chemistry as a team.
