Prep Dig has been working to cover all our states and as many teams as possible, so this was a unique way to see players from different clubs and regions performing side by side in drills run by college coaches. This Mini Camp gave players the opportunity to work directly with college coaches of all levels. Here are some of the top performers that caught my eye at the Exposure Mini Camp.
Aubree Bucheger* If you are new to Prep Dig, we cover prep volleyball year round with high school and club on a state by state basis with writers in gyms across our five states: Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.
Aubree Bucheger – 2020 – 5’7 – Libero – Oconto – One Wisconsin Bay 17-1
Bucheger was one of my favorite players to watch during the mini camp. She was crazy fast and hustled like a maniac. Bucheger was so scrappy, and you could tell she was loving every minute of it.
Bailey OrtegaBailey Ortega – 2020 – 5’9 – Setter – Davenport North (IA) – Eastern Iowa Extreme 17 Teal
Ortega has great hands and handles tight passes extremely well. She is absolutely money when jump setting and has a nice high contact point. Ortega also has nearly flawless backsets.
Baylie Hanson – 2020 – Right Side Hitter – One Wisconsin Bay 18-1
Hansen has such a high ceiling as a long lefty. She contacts the ball so high and hits a great line shot.
Danielle LienDanielle Lien – 2022 – 5’10 – Outside Hitter – River Falls – Kokoro 15-1
Lien is a flat-out violent attacker. She will definitely be one to watch for in the next couple years. I look forward to seeing her challenge and learn from the River Falls upperclassmen.
Hailee Orhn – 2020 – 5’5 – Libero – Grand Rapids (MN) – Minnesota North
I had a lot of fun watching Orhn force the college coaches to challenge her. She had really nice controlled digs and was super scrappy for the first and second touches on defense.
Kaitlin Leider – 2022 – Outside Hitter – Belvidere Central (IL) – VC United 151 Elite
Leider is from the Class of 2022, so it’s not a huge surprise that she is a little smaller, but super athletic. She has super springy legs and a whip of an arm.
Kate NelsonKate Nelson – 2020 – 6’0 – Outside Hitter – Waukee (IA) – CIS 17M
Nelson has great elevation to give a high contact point. She partners that with a fast swing to be a dynamic attacker from either pin.
Katy Garrison – 2021 – Pin Hitter – Xavier (IA) – Iowa Rockets 16 R
Garrison has a nice high contact point and a really solid approach to become an offensive force. She has all the tools to be a solid player for the Rockets throughout the season.
Kinsie Zinnel – 2021 – Libero – Boone (IA) – Iowa Heart 17U
Zinnel got a lot of great defensive touches when most weren’t getting near the ball. She showed a ton of hustle among a tough group of defenders.
Rebekah DayRebekah Day – 2020 – 5’7 – Setter – Luxemburg-Casco – One Wisconsin Bay 17 National
Day has great footwork and amazing range. She is quick to the ball and pushes to either pin.
Taylor Birr – 2020 – Setter – Pulaski – One Wisconsin 17-1
Birr stood out as one of the tallest setters in her group. She moved well and did extremely well handling tight passes.
Zoee Pond – 2021 – 5’9 – Right Side Hitter – Monroe – Capital 16 Navy
Pond has been a major point scorer for Capital this year so far. She sees the block extremely well and finds the open spot with her fast and hard lefty swing.
