With the age requirements for club volleyball, many younger players feel they are always facing older, stronger teams. That must be why Rochester’s Sports developed the Odd Cup. There are three divisions: 13’s, 15’s, and 17’s. It is a great event with approximately 75 teams registered.
17’s Division: This group will be made of mostly 17’s and some elite 16’s teams. This is a great pool of talent, much of whom haven’t committed to a school for college yet. Their tall players will standout for more than just their height:
Karli Arkell: 6’2” – MB from Rock Central; SWMVB 17-1
Haley Muenchow: 6′ – MB from Russell-Tyler-Ruthton; SWMVB 17-2
Mya Suess: 6′ – MB from Kasson Mantorville; SMV 16-1
Hannah Reichensperger; 6′ – MB from Northeast Rang; MN North 16-1
Brielle Kallberg: 5’10” – MB from Ely; MN North 17-1
Our top picks to win include: SWMVB 17-1, Shakopee 17, MN North, or SMV 16-1
15’s Division: This age group will have the potential for a lot of same team match up’s; there are many clubs sending multiple teams. For example, the Hammerheads have four teams entered. Likewise Kokoro has 3 teams: Kokoro 14 Reg. Blue, Kokoro 15 Reg. Blue, and 15 Reg. Orange. Here are a few game changes to watch for:
Gillian Garrigan: 5’9” – from Stillwater; Kokoro 15 Regional Blue
Tessa Gannott: 6′ – OH from Marshall; SWMNVB 15-1
Tessa Erlandson: 5’7” – OH from Kenyon-Wanamingo; SMV 14-1
Brooke Andries: 5’11” – RS from Marshall; SWMNVB 15-1
Sophia Mathew: 5’1” – OH from Hopkins; Club 43 15 Nat.
Predictions to take home gold: KEVC 15-1, SMV 14-1, SWMVB 15-1, or V-Hawk Extreme 15 Silver.
13’s Divison: These athletes who typically find themselves in with the 14’s will have their moment to play their peers. There are only two 12’s teams up for the challenge of a true serving line: SMV 12-1 Silver and KVBC 12-1’s. Our top picks include: Kasson Volleyball Club (KVBC 13-1), VIBE, KEVC 13-1 and MVA 13-1.
