They continue to impress with their number of teams, boys programs, and outstanding athletes. Helping to set their club up for success are these three talented setters.
Jordyn Maas is a key contributor for the 18-1’s team. She is a 5’5” setter from Denfeld High school. The 18’s participated in the Big City Luau and took 3rd place along with an incredible first place finish at NCR Regional National Bid this month. Her game is not limited to setting. She is a capable server and plays smart read-defense. With an strong interest to continue playing in college, she would be excellent candidate for a 6-2 offense or as a back row specialist. This talented team includes athletes committed to: Winona State Univ., Univ. Texas-Arlington, and U of M-Duluth. Practicing and playing with talented teammates has helped develop Maas’ skills and she deserves a spot on a college team too.
Emma Baker is another talented player. She is the leading setter for the 18-2’s team; although, she doesn’t graduate until 2020. She attends Mesabi East High School. It is fun to watch her experience success with her club team. Her team’s strength is defense and she and teammate, Becca Jurgensen (libero), lead the way.
DonnaMae Smith is on the 17-1’s team. She is 5’7” setter from Moose Lake High School where she has been a main fixture since her sophomore year. When I saw her at the Odd cup, one word came to mind: effortless. Her setting is so relaxed and fluid. There is no wasted movement. Although her team struggled that weekend, I felt she put forth her best effort to provide her team with hit-able balls.
The program MN North has grown get stronger each year with several talented players represent the northern part of our state!
