The Class of 2022 had some setters really standout and shine, while some of the club stars are showing they are clearly ready to step up when their number is called in the future. Here’s a look at 10 setters that should have a big impact in the Class of 2022.
RELATED: 2022’s Top Outside Hitters
- Anna Leigh Alford, Mount Pleasant/FaR Out: The Oilers had a breakout season in 2018 and Alford was a big part of it. She already recorded the school-record for assists with 1,205 this fall, but also was able to put up 341 digs and close to 100 aces. Alford competes for FaR Out 15 Black where she smoothly runs an offense of up-and-coming hitters.
- Karlee Stoll, Anchor Bay/Legacy: Stoll put up over 800 assists during the 2018 prep season and also contributed over 80 kills. Stoll showed a strong serving ability as well with over 50 aces. She will be a complete player at setter in years to come. Stoll is already improving leaps and bounds while playing for Legacy 15-Elite.
- Kendyl Andrews, Flushing/Arsenal Volleyball Club: Andrews fit in nicely at Flushing in her first year, helping the Raiders reach the state quarterfinals in 2018. Andrews racked up 1,075 assists with 340 digs and 70 aces. She is playing up in age level during club season as part of Arsenal 16U Elite.
- Julia Mills, Carleton-Airport/High Street: Mills ran the Jets’ offensive smoothly this fall and helped them claim a district championship. She racked up 758 assists with 263 digs and also chipped in 25 blocks and over 65 kills.
- Renee Brines, Cadillac: Brines was part of a Cadillac offense that mixed things up, but she was always a focal point. Brines had 772 assists, 123 kills, 302 digs, 55 aces and 33 blocks this fall, showing she has the skills to do it all.
- Hannah Bitely, Grand Rapids Northview/MVA: Bitely had 680 assists with 350 digs and 25 aces in her first season at Northview and is showing improvement while playing for MVA 15 National Black. Bitely is hoping to lead the Wildcats to a breakout 2019 season.
- Cayden Anschutz, Grand Rapids Catholic Central/MVA: Anschutz was thrown into the fire right away, contributing big minutes and sets for GRCC this fall. The Cougars are hoping to establish themselves more in the Division 2 scene, but Anschutz won’t be holding them back. She’s getting great experience as part of MVA 16 National Black during the club season.
- Jaina Macaulay, Lake Orion/Michigan Elite: Macaulay hasn’t had the chance to play at the varsity level for Lake Orion yet, but she certainly will be a factor in the future. The sister of state-champion Dragon setter, Wren Macaulay, Jaina plays with the same effort and energy as her older sister. She also has the ability to play in the back row and is a key piece to Michigan Elite 15 Mizuno.
- Alyssa DeVries, Grand Rapids Christian/MVA: DeVries is part of the volleyball factory at Grand Rapids Christian and will have to be patient for another fall as Jordyn Gates wraps up her impressive prep career. However, the Eagles will be in good hands for 2020 as DeVries shows a lot of skills as part of MVA 15 National Black.
- Jacoby Flynn, Rochester Adams/Michigan Elite: Flynn was able to see some action this fall for Rochester Adams, competing in the stacked OAA Red Conference. She is currently playing in the back row for Michigan Elite 15 Elite East.
