Many of these athletes will be competing at a national level this summer while others may be hidden gems that are just starting to pick up the attention from college coaches. Here are some new names to know from the Class of 2021.
Danielle Johnson – Six Pack 16-1 – Osage – Outside Hitter
Johnson’s athletic ability is not only seen on the volleyball court, but she is also a standout basketball player and golfer. She had a major breakout high school season which led to All State honors and an All Tournament team selection at the state tournament for Osage. Johnson is long and athletic with a high contact point along with the ability to play six rotations. She will be high on the radar of the Class of 2021 pin hitters which is extremely deep!
Ashlynn Kuhn of @6packvbc may be the smallest attacker for her team as a middle, but she puts the hammer down from her hand contact to the angles she is dangerous. pic.twitter.com/QYqhSKtgAy

Ashlyn Kuhn – Six Pack 16-1 – Hudson – Middle Blocker
Some of the best hand contact I’ve seen this year on the club circuit. It doesn’t matter how tall you are when you can get above the net and hit the ball square to the spot you want it to go. Kuhn is extremely dynamic from the middle where she can run a variety of routes to get open, working with setter Jasmine Yamilkoski. Kuhn can put a hurt on the ball and it’s just a matter who is in her way of between the ball and the floor. Really exciting player to watch.
Elyse Winter – Iowa Rockets 16-R – Cedar Rapids Kennedy – Outside Hitter (Title Photo)
Winter is relatively new to the pin after spending most of her volleyball career in the middle. From seeing her at Iowa Regionals, Winter has the foundation to be a dangerous player from the outside with her athletic ability and her training as a middle to see the whole court. A high reach with solid contact allows her to score points in a hurry. As she develops her backcourt game defensively and offensively she is going to be tough to stop.
Alysen Dexter – Ohana 16 Regional – Des Moines Christian – Outside Hitter
Dexter is exploding on to the club scene this winter and is really picking up some momentum. A six rotation outside that has a blend of shots and also finding the open court, taking what the defense gives her. If the defense is giving her line, she’ll hit a deep shot in the corner, if they are taking away line she’ll split or hit over the block. She is going to be a big time player for Des Moines Christian this fall after the Lions racked up 25 wins last season with Dexter as a Sophomore.
Pypr Stoeffler – MVP (Sioux City) – LeMars – Outside Hitter
Stoeffler can play all away around, racking up over 2 kills per set and over 200 digs her Sophomore year of high school for the Bulldogs. Northwest Iowa is loaded with talent with Sergeant Bluff-Luton, Heelan, MOC-FV, and all the teams from Sioux County. Stoeffler is making her game to be an aggressive style from her approach to how she plays defense. She could even be an option to be a libero at the next level with her skill set.
Caidince Cleveland – Iowa Select 16 Mizuno – Bettendorf – Libero
Behind every fire is a spark and thats what Cleveland provides for Iowa Select 16 Mizuno that has a bid secured for USAV Nationals in Indianapolis this summer. Cleveland has experience with High Performance and a really solid platform with some range to go with it. The Iowa Select 16 Mizuno team is exciting to watch with multiple ways to score, but when they are in system they are tough to stop.
Jori Hajek – Humboldt – Outside Hitter
Hajek is dynamite with her jumping ability and shots she can create from the front or backrow. She might be all of 5’7, but she can get on top of the ball and put the hammerdown. Earning All District honors this past fall, Hajek had over 200 kills and 200 digs for the Wildcats who were Regional Runner-Up behind Osage.
Taylor Grinley – Gilbert – CIA 16 Black – Setter
Grinley ran the show for Gilbert High School and is doing so again for CIA. She even had to block out of the middle at Iowa Regionals which to have to block from pin to pin and then transition into setting is an extremely difficult task to do. At Gilbert this past season as a Sophomore, Grinley had over 700 assists and was able to tally nearlly 100 kills. Gilbert is going to be a team to watch with all of their kill leaders back and Grinley as a setter they will be a favorite out of Central Iowa.
