Their list of accomplishments includes earning a national bid at the NCR Regionals. It was obvious they would be one of the top seeded teams in the tournament but the way they cut through the competition was impressive. In fact, in pool play, most teams couldn’t make it past the teams. The first pool they defeated Byron 17’s (25-11 and 25-13) and Jaguars (25-11 and 25-10). Their spot serving helped take opponents out of system and MVA capitalized on every free ball. Their closest match was against SEV (Southern Extreme Volleyball) 18 Black. They were the only team that managed to take a set from MVA all weekend. It was the very first match of the tournament. Still MVA won 25-20, 23-25, and 15-12.
Again in their second round of pool play, they kept all opponents under 20 points. This included a talented Matrix 18 Red. They showed how consistent their play is with barely any errors. Sarah Johnson and Sarah Zins dominated the middle and defensive efforts were led by Selena Rodriguez with Angel Vo setting. Bridget Witzmann was a force to contain with the high tempo offense of MVA.
Lastly, they defeated Husk-Kee VC 17-1, CPAC 18 Gold, and Hype 18-1. The championship showed a battle with Hype scoring 21 points in the first set. But MVA wore them down winning the last match handily 25-14. We would have liked to see how the Stewie 17 team stacked up against them but they were beat out by Hype in 3. They play a similair game with strong passing, and tough serving. OMG Athlete was another one of the top teams that didn’t get their chance to challenge MVA.
The talent on the this team runs deep. Half of the team is already set to play at elite colleges all over the mid-west, but there are still others who would bring the MVA excellence to the next level. Here are list of the uncommitted players on this amazingly, talented 18 elite team:
Sarah Zins; Blaine HS – MH/OH 2020
Brielle Danczyk; Andover HS – OH
Emma Guest; St Francis HS -OH/DS 2020
