Here are some new athletes that we’ve added to the Class of 2020 list that are definitely worth noting having an impact for their team and across the state.
Kenzie Foley – Outside Hitter – Sergeant-Bluff Luton – MVP (Sioux City)
Sergeant Bluff-Luton has made quite the statement in Western Iowa the past couple of years. With the likes of Madison Harms who will be heading to South Dakota and Kenzie Foley on the outside it has resulted in a state runner-up finish in 2017 and a semifinal appearance in 2018. Foley is a six rotation outside hitter who was named 1st Team All State in Class 4A with 489 kills, 4.5 kills per set hitting .337 from the pin. Foley is a key go to player for her club team MVP 18 Blue out of Sioux City who recently won the Great Plains Regional Qualifier.
Bohnet of CB LincolnElaina Bohnet – Outside Hitter – Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln – SWI
Bohnet is very similar to Foley in her style of play. Extremely athletic, six rotation player who has the ability to swing, create a shot, and score from any position on the court. Lincoln is a traditionally strong program and Bohnet is falling right in line. After being named 2nd Team All State in Class 5A, she will be poised for an even bigger Senior year, however after tallying over 400 kills in 2018 she just needs to keep on scoring points. She will be a great pick up at the next level.
Isabelle Vacek – Middle Blocker – Ankeny – CIS
Committed to Wayne State
Vacek has state tournament experience for Ankeny where last year she led the team with 348 kills while hitting .375. She makes a really solid setter/middle combination with Phyona Schrader who has committed to Notre Dame. Having already committed to Wayne State, one of the top Division 2 programs in the region, Vacek will be one of the leaders for the Hawkettes who return a solid nucleus heading into the 2018 season.
Macey KleitschMacey Kleitsch – Setter/UT – West Delaware – Six Pack
A major swiss army knife who can do whatever the teams need from setting to hitting. This past high school season Kleitsch was named 1st Team All State with a resume loaded with stats from every category. With nearly 1000 assists, 47 assists, 172 kills, and over 300 digs she is one of the best all around players in the state.
Helaina Hillyard – Middle Blocker/Outside Hitter – Mediapolis – Iowa Rockets
A solid all around athlete for Mediapolis and Iowa Rockets. She can play in the middle or on the pin, either way approach touching over ten feet looks pretty good. This past season for Mediapolis she was their leader in kills and blocks. She was also a double figure scorer for the 20-3 basketball team.
Katelyn Knudsen – Middle Blocker – Dallas Center-Grimes
Knudsen was a major point scorer and defender for DCG enroute to a state semifinal in Class 4A for the Fillies.
Avery Kroll – Outside Hitter – Waterloo West – CIA
Kroll has become a go to attacker for CIA 17 Black and is drawing some interest from solid Division 2 schools in the region. A big arm on the outside Kroll that can score points and find creative ways with an aggressive swing, a roll, or using the block.
Samantha Hoover – Middle Blocker – Norwalk – CIS
When you walk into the gym, Hoover just looks like a volleyball player being 6’3, long arms, and moves so well across the net. Her athleticism and jumping ability allows her to play extremely high. Her ceiling is not even close to being touched as she is relatively new to volleyball. With continued training with CIS, Hoover can be a steal at the next level.
Megan Witte – Council Bluffs Lewis Central – SWI
Witte piled on the stats this past fall for Lewis Central as she went on to tally just under 500 kills and 300 digs, hitting .357 on the way to All State honors. Lewis Central returns the whole squad. Watch out!
Abbey Griffin – Outside Hitter/Middle – Albia – CIS
I first noticed Griffin not by her athleticism (which she has plenty of that), but by her constant communication. She talks, she points out things to her team, and plays with consistent effort and energy, the type of athlete you want to have on your team. With her athleticism, Griffin can play in the middle or outside where she was on the pin for Albia High School last year where she tallied over 300 kills.
