The Twin Cities is loaded with volleyball talent, stating the obvious, but what about the rest of Minnesota? No problem. But what makes you eligible for this list? The athlete cannot play high school or club for the twin cities metro – now that makes it a little bit tough. I always ask people what they consider a suburb of the Twin Cities, where do you draw the line? Waconia to the West? Forest Lake to the North? Lakeville to the South? Always a debate, but what isn’t are these players outside the metro that are making a name for themselves in the club and high school season.
Kaitlyn Prondzinski – Stewartville – SMV – Outside Hitter
Class of 2020 – Committed to Illinois State
Watching Prondzinksi play last year was a treat when Stewartville went into a packed house at Kasson-Mantorville High School for a matchup of #1 vs. #2 in Class AA. Prondzinski is such a physical force all around. With an aggressive approach she is tough to stop on the pin where she can split the block or use it to her advantage. A heavy swing is tough to stop even when there is a tough. If all else fails she has a nasty top spin to her swing that can land right on the baseline.
Logan Sherman – Marshall – SWMNVB – Setter/Right Side (Blocking in Photo)
Class of 2020
Sherman is a dual threat where she can swing in the front row and set when she is in the backrow. Marshall went to five sets with North Branch to earn state runner-up honors in Class AA. Sherman was a big part of this team, and will be coming back for a Senior year where there is some unfinished business. A physical player at the net, Sherman will be one to keep in Minnesota at the next level.
Makayla Snow – BOLD – Kandi Elite – Setter
Class of 2020 – Committed to Northern State
Snow is the first to commit from the Kandi Elite 17-1 team, the first of many I’m sure. A really calm, composed style of play, Snow just puts the ball in position for her team to terminate without doing anything flashy, she just gets the job done. Northern State has developed into one of the top programs in the NSIC and they will continue to build with the likes of Snow coming in.
Lydia Lange – Caledonia – V-Hawk Xtreme – Middle/Outside Hitter
Class of 2020
I first saw Lange when she was playing two age groups up on the 18 National team for V-Hawk out of La Crosse, WI when she could have been at the 16s level. Lange has a really high contact point and can play out of middle or the pin.
Grace Rohde – Winona – V-Hawk Xtreme – Outside Hitter
Class of 2020
Rohde burst onto the scene last summer when she was selected to be part of the Badger Region High Performance Team which featured some of the top players out of the Class of 2020 and 2021. Rohde has a heavy swing that she can use in all six rotations. She can play on the pin or the right side and attack out of the back row.
Alaina Wolff – Jackson County Central – Kairos (SD) – Outside Hitter (Attacking in Photo)
Class of 2020
Wolf is electric, an All State athlete for JCC, she is quite the all around player who had over 300 digs and nearly 300 kills. Her future at the collegiate level will most likely be as a libero. Wolff can anticipate and has such a solid platform thats under control. She would be a great pick up with her ability to play multiple positions and flat out compete.
Hannah Reichensperger – Northeast Range High School – MN North 16-1 – Middle Blocker
Class of 2022
Reichensperger might be closer to Canada than she is Duluth. However, her game is as big as the woods of Northern Minnesota. The 6’2 Class of 2022 middle blocker plays well above the net and is extremely athletic and physical. Her MN North 16s team is a scrappy bunch and she teams up well with fellow middle blocker Abby Thompson to make quite the 1-2 punch.
Rilee Michaelson – Park Rapids – Pin Hitter
Class of 2020
At 6’0 tall, Michaelson is a force in the front row and was a key part in Park Rapids advancing to the state tournament in 2018 in Class AA. She tallied double digit kills in both matches for Park Rapids who will be looking to make a return trip with Michaelson returning Camree Carlson who also had over 300 kills this past year for Park Rapids.
