Setters and More Top Setters Heading To Prep Dig Gauntlet
The Prep Dig Gauntlet is just over two weeks away and we’re going to be taking a closer look into some of the setters that will be taking the court. Some have committed, others a great pick up at the next level. Will be exciting to see some of them square off against each other with some top competition to open up the “Live” weekend for Division 1 coaches to get back out recruiting.
Committed Setters
Brooke Bolwerk – FC Elite 16 Navy – Class of 2021
Committed to Minnesota State – Mankato
Kalli Mau of FC Elite (WI) has committed to NCAA D2 Bellarmine in Louisville, Kentucky.Bolwerk might be the first setter to commit Division 2 out of the Class of 2021. The Juniors to be at Appleton North High School committed to Minnesota State-Mankato which is part of the Division 2 Northern Sun Conference, one of the top D2 conferences in the nation. Bolwerk is a student of the game, high IQ, and can connect so well with her middles. She will be one of the setters for FC Elite 16 Navy who recently finished 10th in the Open Division at the Northern Lights Qualifier.
Kalli Mau – FC Elite 17 Navy – Class of 2020
Committed To Bellarmine
Mau most recently committed to Bellarmine in Louisville, Kentucky, part of the Division 2 Great Lakes Valley Conference where they finished 20-10 in 2018. Mau has been running a 5-1 for Kimberly High School which has qualified for the state tournament in Wisconsin’s largest class the past two seasons. The Senior to be is also a solid high jumper in the Fox Valley area.
Katie Maser – Nebraska Juniors 17 Black – Class of 2020
Maser will walk on a Creighton and join one of the top programs in the country. The last five years for the Jays have been electric with NCAA Tournament appearances which included hosting the first and second round this season. She will be playing in the state of some of her future teammates in Kiana Schmitt of Waunakee (right outside Madison), Mckenna Krause of Hortonville, and 2020 middle blocker Kiara Reinhardt of Cedarburg/Milwaukee Sting.
Setters You Need To Know
Olivia Curry is SO ATHLETIC! On the block here for @CISvolleyball pic.twitter.com/fxe6NqszDV
— Chris Fitzgerald (@PrepDigChris) April 27, 2019
Olivia Curry – CIS 17M – Class of 2020
Committed to Omaha
Curry can do some really special things when it comes to just being incredibly athletic. She can get her hands to the ball, moves quickly, and finds a way to put her hitters in position to terminate. Curry also puts up a massive block on the right side and can be very offensive. She runs the show for West Des Moines Valley High School, one of the largest and top programs in the state of Iowa.
Alyna Ritter – 17 Royal – Class of 2020
All Ritter has done the past couple seasons has won a state championship for Lake Country Lutheran outside of Milwaukee. A real scrappy and gritty athlete, Ritter finds a way to win. She trained with the Badger Region High Performance program and can be used as a setter of defensive specialist. Her high school team will have one of the best backcouts in Division 3 next season.
Kora Ruff – Iowa Rockets 15R – Class of 2022 (Title Photo)
Ruff is part of an extremely talented group of setters to come out of the Class of 2022 in Iowa. Lauren Carter of CIS 15M has committed to Denver while Morgan Brandt of Six Pack 15-1 has committed to Iowa State. Ruff is just plain smooth, remaining neutral, disguising her sets to the defense and just plays with a high IQ. Her physicality at the net has really improved and she will be one to keep tabs on the couple years. College coaches will be happy to see June 15 after her Sophomore year come around.
Katelyn Lefler – MVP 16 Blue – Class of 2021
Lefler is a force at the net where she can set, attack, and put up a really solid block. An all around athlete, Lefler has been a big part of the success of MVP where they can also run a 6-2 with Chloe Epker. Between the two there are multiple options when it comes to setting and hitting. Lefler somehow finds a way to make a big impact on the match.
Mazie Rubner – Iowa Rockets 16R – Class of 2021
Rubner has plenty of offensive weapons she can go to and just keeps a calm presence about herself to get the job done. Some of her favorite targets would include Martha Pace, Elyse Winter, and Katy Garrison on the right side. Rubner will be running the show for Mount Vernon High School who will be among one of the top contenders in Class 4A (second largest in Iowa) this upcoming season.
