Whether you choose a spot serve, float serve, top or jump, mastering a your skills behind the line will have great benefits. There is always a spot of the court for a athlete who can produce aces. And these young, athletes are some of the best.
Ainsley Halvorson is a strong, left handed outside from Heritage Chirstian. At 5’6” she is slightly small than other outsides but she makes up for it with her conventional left-handed hitting on the outside. As a member of the Crossfire 17-1 team she uses her excellent vertical to 23 inch vertical to even the playing field. She made a big impact for her high school team this past season as a 10th grader. Watching and playing with older sister Mariah Halvorson, a University of Northwestern athlete, has definitely paid off.
She is not the only player who has learned to be an effective server from a family member. Terza Rudzitis is only a 9th grader, but has been learning from her mom, Leah, who is a coach for the Digs Volleyball Club. Last year Terza was one of the state’s leaders in aces. She has a high ace service percentage- meaning she typically gets an ace or misses. She is prime example of how younger players who can serve tough can earn playing time!
Another strong freshmen (2022 grad.) is Payton Rodberg from Proctor, Minnesota. She shakes things up way north of the cities. As a powerful 5’9” outside, she is able to take her fast arm-swing to the line to earn dozens of aces. Rodberg is one of the youngest on the Minnesota North 16-1 club team.
Abby Heinrich is another who leads the stats in serving. A freshman from West Lutheran, Abby had a handful of matches in which she she had over 5 aces. Her personal best was 10 aces against Northern Lakes Academy. Her strength is being a smart server. As a setter, understands how to take a team out of their offense with a serve. Heinrich was 2nd Team All-Conference as a freshmen.
