Teams will leave for their respective tournaments in the next few weeks and compete at the national level.
By this point in the season, competition is the best way to get great practice. Teams are likely spending practices tightening up their weak points, honing in where they excel and building endurance for the long week of nationals.
At the 15s level Wildcat Jrs 15 Premier took first place. Wisconsin Juniors 15 National took second and Wisconsin Juniors 14-1 took third.
The Wisconsin Juniors 14-1 team is scrappy and never lets a ball drop. Over the season I have seen some truly incredible plays by this team. While they are quite small overall, their grit keeps them in competition with some of the top 14s teams in the state.
At the 16s level RVA G16 Navy secured first place, only dropping one set the entire day which was in the championship match against Wisconsin Juniors 15-1. It was a tough match, with only a two-point difference in both the second and third sets.
For Juniors, Megan Grampo is a dynamic outside hitter who has great shots across the net and is very consistent. Setter Julia Shrofe is a great leader on the court and has great hands. She sees the court well and makes great decisions.
Royal 17’s took first place in the 17/18s division and had a great day of volleyball. Outside hitter Isabella Ledezma showed how much power she has. Alayna Ritter (Prep Dig Rank #49) is a setter who knows all of the intricacies of volleyball. She hustles and is a smart player.
Katie Pogodzinski (Prep Dig Rank #98) is an impactful middle hitter and is one of the go-to players on this Royal team. She brings fire to the court and is great as a hitter and blocker. This is a talented Royal team who is headed to AAU nationals in Orlando, Florida.
Each of the teams who played in this tournament definitely came home with some things to work on at practice before going into nationals in the next few weeks. It was a great pre-nationals tournament with good competition that is late enough in the season to be very beneficial to all teams who attended.
