Here is a look at the Crossroads Conference, a typical small school volleyball power conference in Nebraska. In the last 12 years, the Crossroads has had a team in 8 of the finals with 4 teams winning a state title in Class D-1. They have also had 6 out of the last 12 state finals in Class D-2 with 5 of those winning a state title. So needless to say the area has a lot of talent and all of the schools are within driving distance to Omaha, Lincoln and Grand Island which many of those girls play can train and play club in the offseason in those cities. Most of these girls also play multiple sports.
Here are some returning impact players to keep an eye on this camp season and into the fall. Note that not all CRC schools turned in impact players:
Giltner
Hannah Preissler: A 5’6″ senior setter. She is a great athlete with 812 assists, and 44 ace serves.
Cassidy Tompkin: A 6′ senior middle hitter. She is athletic and has good volleyball IQ. She had 248 kills as a junior and is very capable of impacting a game as a blocker and a hitter. She has a ton of volleyball experience and background throughout high school and club ball.
Sydney Janzen: A 5’5″ senior hitter and libero. She has great volleyball skills and instincts. She is very versatile both in the front and back row. She led the team with 51 ace serves.
Nebraska Lutheran
Amy Richert: A 5’6″ senior setter/right side hitter. She is low error in serve receive and digs. She had 95 set assists to go along with her 55 kills on the season. for the Knights.
Cross County
Cortlyn Schaefer: 5’11” junior outside hitter. She was the go to player this past year for Cross County. She led the team in kills with 394 and digs with 313. Her knowledge of the game, vision on the court and quick decision-making skills make her an all-around player.
Shelby-Rising City
Karmryn Pokorny: 5’10” senior middle hitter. Kamryn is a huge leader for the Huskies. She is an all around player, but really explodes in the front row. Her goal this fall is to open her view to make a variety of different shots in the front row. She had 318 kills last year as a junior. She averaged 1.6 blocks per set.
Bruning-Davenport-Shickley
Regan Alfs: Senior setter/hitter: Regan was one of the kill leaders for the State Champion Eagles this past fall. She also sets for the Eagles. Look for her to be a force as a leader as well.
Macy Kamler: Junior middle: Kamler alongside Alfs was one of the kill leaders for the Eagles. She will also be a leader on the court this coming fall.
Keep your eyes on these impact players during upcoming team camps and this coming fall for the Crossroads Conference. The conference tournament is held mid-October and is usually referred to as a mini state tournament because of the great games year in and out. It is held each year at the York City Auditorium and it is a fantastic atmosphere for small school volleyball with lots of nostalgia.
