There is also a little bit of pressure too with the upcoming season being the “last” before heading off to college. For some athletes, they are also sorting through colleges to see what their best option is. For these 2020 athletes, they are definitely ones that colleges will be after and taking a look at. All about finding the best fit. Here are a few Iowa athletes who would be a great fit at the next level!
Jaz Westmoreland – Six Pack – Waverly-Shell Rock
Outside Hitter
Westmoreland is solid in all six rotations, playing a big part in Six Pack 17’s Open Bid and a top 15 finish at nationals just a few weeks ago. Creative with her shots, solid in serve receive, and a steady blocker, she has the all around skills to compete at a high level. WSR should have a solid team this upcoming Fall and Westmoreland should be one of the big time go to athletes for the Go-Hawks.
Brooke Mulholland – Iowa Select – Clinton
Setter
Just an all around athlete that is so consistent and steady. Mulholland has the ability to make the routine plays look easy, but can also really make something out of nothing, getting her hands balls out of system and attacking when the opportunity presents itself. A big time gamer, she is a solid fit in any gym at the next level, but with her body language and leadership she is the type you want on the floor.
Kylie Welch – Iowa Rockets – Davenport Assumption
Outside Hitter
Welch is electric. She played a big part in the Assumption run to state in Class 3A last year and will be doing much of the same this fall. A big arm, a lot of energy, and intensity, Welch knows how to play in big moments and will be one to keep tabs on out of the Quad Cities area this season.
Elaina Bohnet – SW Iowa 3rd Degree – Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln
Outside Hitter
Abe Lincoln will be a very legit contender in Class 5A and a large part of that is the play of Bohnet on the pin. The All State outside hitter from 2018 will be returning along with most of her team from last year. Bohnet is the six rotation athlete who can make something happen out of nothing – 2019 will be a fun year to watch what she can do with a strong supporting cast, including Samantha Christensen who had 1000 plus assists setting last year.
Abbey Griffin – Central Iowa Select – Albia
OH/RS/MH
Griffin is just a strong and physical athlete where she is very dynamic in the front row. She can play anywhere in the front row and brings a really contagious energy to the court and is always communicating with her teammates.
Helaina Hillyard – Iowa Rockets – Mediapolis
Middle Blocker
So athletic. Watching her run a slide is like a well choreographed dance move. She makes the difficult plays look easy with her ability to jump. She may be 5’9/5’10, but with her speed and athleticism she can make a lot of special things happen for her team.
Cassidy Boche – Adrenaline – Cedar Rapids Jefferson
Outside Hitter
Boche had a really strong national tournament for Adrenaline earning All-Star honors. She was also very impressive at the Adrenaline College Elite Camp. Six rotations and a savviness to score points, Boche will be a big am for Jefferson this Fall who lost quite the crew of Seniors off their back to back state tournaments.
Ilah Perez-Johnson – Iowa Select – Pleasant Valley
Outside/Right Side
Perez-Johnson was on the Iowa Select team who recently finished their season at nationals in Indianapolis. An outside hitter with a big upside and a high contact point, she will part of a PV team that will be a favorite to get to Cedar Rapids with a roster full of depth and athleticism.
