Teams from multiple states will be coming to Ames with some of them being state tournament contenders in their respective divisions. Here are five things to watch at the opening camp at July 24-25 camp.
Rematch of a State Championship
Carroll-Kuemper will be bringing two teams to team camp, Kuemper Gold and Kuemper Red. They will be returning All State middle blocker, Kara Peter who is committed to Drake and entering her Senior year. They won the Class 3A state title over Tipton, who will also be attending camp this weekend. Tipton took a big hit to graduation, but will be returning Class 3A Player of the Year, Sommer Daniel who is one of the top all around players in the state.
Bishop Miege Coming From Kansas City
Bishop Miege is a top program out of the Kansas City area out of Shawnee Mission, KS and has top players out of the area. Iowa State has had success recruiting out of the Kansas City and Bishop Miege would be a great program to have on campus. Bishop Miege was the Class 4A State Champions in Kansas, returning All-Tournament Team athletes in Katrina Davis who plays for KC Power and Payton Verhulst who is also one of the top basketball players in the state.
Osage Back For More
Osage was the runner up at the UNI Team Camp and will be returning a crew of athletes who have plenty of big game experience. Dani Johnson is an All State outside hitter back for her Junior year and will also have the likes of attackers, Meredith Street, Kaebre Sullivan, and one of the top track and field athletes in Iowa with Paige Kisley. All have state tournament experience, but will have to replace All State setter Rylie Olson who will be heading to Grand View this fall.
Big Time Commits
Dike-New Hartford, Liberty, and North Cedar will be part of this camp and with that will come some big time players in the state of Iowa. Wichita State commit, Morgan Weber will be playing for DNH and will be looking to get back to the state tournament. Liberty High School is a program to keep tabs on, they will have Rylee Fay who is a commit to Missouri State. North Cedar will be led by one of the top liberos in the Class of 2021 in Sydney Dennis who is committed to Iowa.
Out of State Teams
With teams from out of state there is always the unknown which makes it exciting for all involved. Here are the teams coming from outside state lines – Albert Lea (MN), Bishop Miege (KS), Fremont (NE), Martin County West (MN), and Platte Co (MO).
