Oconto is a Division III school that competes in the Packerland Conference. Other top schools to watch in this conference include Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay, and Gibraltar. This is a very young team who only lost one senior this past season. Last year’s roster included three freshmen, four sophomores, three juniors, and one senior. The spread of talent and age on this team is a huge asset as they look toward their 2019 season.
Senior libero Aubree Bucheger (Prep Dig Rank #115) will lead this team from the back row. She will provide leadership and consistency to a team that will have key players across several classes. Her dedication to defense and strong, consistent serve will be imperative for the Blue Devil’s success this season.
In the front row, junior Cora Behnke (Prep Dig Rank #5) will be a go-to hitter when she is in both the front and back rows. She was a captain as a sophomore and in her two years on varsity has brought in 640 kills, 75 blocks, 561 digs, 130 aces, and 538 service receptions. She is one of the top outsides in the state and is sure to continue impressing in her junior season.
Incoming sophomore Hannah Moe made waves as a middle her freshman year on varsity. She had 130 kills on 376 attempts. She also contributed 24 blocks. She impressed during the club season playing for FC Elite 15 Navy and will continue to grow as an athlete and teammate in the 2019 season.
Emma Walkowiak will be a junior setter on the team and has been on the team since her freshman year. She had 332 assists in her sophomore season as well as 141 digs. She makes smart plays and works hard on every play.
Oconto’s matchup versus Southern Door will be a huge match to watch this season. One of them could end up not only at the top of their conference but making it far into the state tournament.
